layout

• When making this opening we didn’t look at other films to inspire us for the layout.

• The layout of our opening was; it was set in a teenaged males bedroom, we then had to show how obsessed he was with gaming and technology that we had a variety of games and films all over the room, we also have posters of sci-fi films up on the walls, like jumper and the Hobbit. We also had the the PlayStation on show as well. We also had the character on a desk playing games, with two computer screens, this was to emphasis how interested the character was with technology.

• When looking at other films, after we had thought about ideas we realized that are setting was similar to the Belgium film Ben X. And we had aspects of Se7en

The story line

• Our story line for our opening sequence is; This teenaged male called Lucas is obsessed with playing games. He play games everyday and night and even when he has time at school. When he is at school he get bullied for playing his games. Lucas doesn’t have any friends and whenever people try to get close to him he pushed them away. The only friends that he has are his virtual friends. Lucas doesn’t like his life anymore and wants to live in the virtual world with is friends as he feels it a much better place. Then one day his dream comes true. Everyday he has to complete a level, but what Lucas doesn’t know is that if you die in the game, you die in reality.

• Our story line is original and there isn’t a film that is like this, however there are some films that are similar for example, Gamer, Ben x and Scott pilgrim VS the world.

Influences• In our opening sequence we have had many influences; Ben X,

Se7en, gamer, Kick ass.

• From Ben X we used similar camera shots; for example a close up of the character on the computer and also used a shot of the key board, however we made it a close up. We also used a shot of the two computers, to show the obsession with playing games and technology.

• Also in Ben x it shows some of the game that the character is playing we have also done this but with the titles.

• We also decided to use a voice over of the character to allow the audience to understand what the character is feeling, we got this idea from kick ass.

• We also used a collage of shots that shows the games and films that are around the room, this is also shown in the film se7en, we felt that it was a good idea as it would show the audience what the character personality is like before seeing what he look and acts like.

Sound

• The music in our opening sequence we used very up-beat and happy music, this was because we felt that we didn’t need to have sad music as we weren’t showing in a sad light. The music that we chose was what teenagers would listen to and therefore we were relating it back to our target audience.

• The music was diegetic as the actor couldn’t hear it. This was to show the feeling of the character rather than the audience listening to the characters choice of music.

• We also had a voice over which was inspired by Kick Ass that was because we felt having a voice over would help the audience understand what was going on and also to relate to the feelings and emotions the character was experiencing.

Editing

• The editing that we used was fades, into new shots to have a collage effect to show that Lucas owns a lot of films and video games.

• Are editing was quite slow paced, meaning that we didn’t lots of shots showing in a shot period of time as we weren’t trying to build any tension or make the atmosphere uncomfortable.
