PUNJAB POLICE ROPES IN 4336 VOLUNTEERS IN 10 DISTRICTS ON PILOT FOR ON-GROUND RELIEF OPERATIONS & CURFEW ENFORCEMENT

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 9: To further ramp up its response mechanism and ensure effective supervision of COVID-19 related relief operations, the Punjab Police has roped in volunteers to join the DIAL 112 workforce to support the over 40,000-strong force working on the ground.

Launched on a pilot basis in 10 districts so far, the scheme has already led to enrolment of 4336 volunteers to work closely with the Punjab police delivery of essential services and other relief as well as enforcement work at the ground level. The districts covered are: Amritsar City (270), Amritsar Rural (83), Bathinda (370), Fazilka (343), Ferozepur (239), Jalandhar City (267), Ludhiana City (1602), Ludhiana Rural (388), SAS Nagar (272) and Patiala (502). 24,000 per day. To meet the unprecedented demand, the helpline response capacity has already been doubled, said the DGP.

The calls received are forwarded to 112 District Control Rooms for immediate resolution. The police force on the ground has the task of addressing all public requirement and addressing all grievances/complaints. Given the increasing pressure on the ground force, it was decided to take on the services of volunteers, said Gupta.

Problems relating to shortage of food and medicines are dealt with on priority by the District police units and the Dial 112 volunteers assisting the police through SAANJH - Community Policing Initiative. The DGP said ADGP community Affairs, Gurpeet Deo, and AIG Intelligence, Kanwardeep Kaur, were handling their entire operation.

As of today, a total of 40089562 unit meals of dry ration and 5350698 packets of cooked food have been provided to the needy by the Punjab Police in association with NGOs, Gurdwaras and general public. Villagers, supported by the volunteers and the police personnel, are also ensuring voluntary lockdown in many areas, said the DGP, adding that out of 13241 villages, 11638 have been fully sealed, which amounts to 88 percent of the villages in Punjab.

As far as curfew enforcement is concerned, Gupta revealed that on Thursday, 381 FIRs were been registered, 568 persons arrested, 186 vehicles impounded and 1499 persons taken to open jails. Apart from these, four FIRs have also been registered against the persons indulged in spreading fake news on social media.

DGP SEEKS NOMINATIONS FROM CPs/SSPs BESIDES MLAs AND MEMBERS OF PUBLIC TO HONOUR POLICE PERSONNEL WORKING EXCEPTIONALLY DURING

COVID-19 OPERATIONS CHANDIGARH, APRIL 9: Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta has asked all the Commissioners of Police and SSPs to send nominations of the police personnel, who have rendered outstanding services at the frontline of the COVID-19 operations and response activities in the state in wake of global corona virus pandemic.

Disclosing this here today, the DGP Dinkar Gupta further said that such nominations would also be sought from elected representatives like MLAs and the members of the public. All these nominations would be scrutinised meticulously by a State Level Committee.

Meanwhile, Gupta said that Punjab was the first state in the country to institute this ‘Director General of Police Honour for Exemplary Sewa to Society’ award to recognise the exceptional work done by Punjab Police officials in the field of community service amid COVID-19. He said that this coveted award had been introduced on the initiative of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh considering the scale and sacrifice of the over 45000 policemen who fanned out all over the State and worked relentless with social and religious organizations to realize his resolve that ‘no man will sleep hungry in Punjab’.

The DGP further said that the Punjab police personnel had been consistently performing duties round the clock for enforcement of curfew and other enforcement activities besides making stupendous efforts at their personal and organisational level for providing food to the needy and other humanitarian activities.

It may be recalled that an ASI (LR) Bikar Singh and Constable Sukhjinder Pal Singh of Moga were amongst the first recipient of this prestigious award as these two police personnel had assisted a woman of Dharamkot, Moga, in delivering a baby few days ago after she had been denied admission by many hospitals late at night. Besides, Inspector SHO Sanjeev Kumar of Amritsar has been selected as third recipient for feeding the poor and hungry with a missionary zeal.

Chandigarh, April 9:

Disposing of misapprehensions regarding funeral of Covid-19 patients,

Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu and Technical Education & Industrial

Training Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi today visited at the funeral of

Sarpanch Mohan Singh of Village Chatamali, who was died yesterday with the

infection of the virus.

Enlightening about the social works was being done by Sarpanch Mohan

Singh, Mr. Sidhu said he had a great repute in the area, who often helped the

needy. He appealed to the people not to be afraid with the funeral of the Corna

infected patients. He said that funerals of the patients don’t pose any threat to

attendees or nearby residing people. The Minister informed that the health officials

are following all health protocols issued by Health Ministry during the funerals of

the Corona Infected people.

The Minister further apprised that even the ash of the infected patient’s

doesn’t create any risk and the ash of the body can be collected as per rituals. He

said that it was a matter of great sorrow that some of the villagers and family

members turned down the funerals; this behavior can’t be tolerated at all.

He reiterated that the main driver of transmission of COVID-19 is through

droplets and with close contact of affected person.

The Health Minister also appealed the people to strictly follow the

guidelines issued by the state government. He said that with a view to provide

SAMPLE TESTING OF COVID-19 SUSPECTS IN PUNJAB INCREASED

In a prompt move to increase the sample testing of COVID-19 suspects, 5

additional RTPCR and 4 RNA extraction machines have been purchased the

Punjab Government. The Machines have been installed in two of its VRDL (Viral

Research Diagnostic Lab) labs situated at Government Medical Colleges, Patiala

and Amritsar. Now the capacity of each lab to conduct the sample testing of

suspected COVID-19 suspects has been increase from existing 40 tests per day to

400 tests per day. In total these two labs would be able to conduct 800 tests per day

as against existing capacity of 80 tests per day.

It was disclosed by Mr. D.K.Tiwari, Principal Secretary Medical Education and

Research in a press communiqué released here today. He said that in Punjab we

have two VRDL (Viral Research Diagnostic Lab) labs where the testing of the

samples of "COVID-19" suspected people is done. He said that initially the

capacity of these labs was only upto 40 samples daily. However, looking at the

emergency situation, additional 5 RTPCR machines have been purchased with the

total expenditure of Rs. 1.6 crore with this now we have total 8 RTPCR machines

in the state. Now each lab has 4 RTPCR machines. In addition, 4 RNA extraction

machines (with automation) have also been purchased spending Rs. 1.25 crore

rupees.

Mr. D.K.Tiwari further explained that with the installation of these new machines

in both the labs existing at Government Medical Colleges, Patiala and Amritsar,

the capacity of each lab has been increased upto 400 samples daily. Reluctantly

now from April 9, 2020, the capacity for sample testing of COVID-19 suspects

would increase upto 800 tests per day. He said that each lab is under the close

supervision of Principal Investigator of Viral Research Diagnostic Lab. Till now,

1958 samples have been tested in both these labs. He said that Guru Gobind Singh

Medical College & Hospital at Faridkot has also applied for approval of ICMR in

this lab and it will soon start testing with an initial capacity of 40 tests per day.

Mr. Tiwari also appreciated the dedication and commitment of Doctors and para

Medical staff of the Government Colleges. He said that this is the true service to

save mankind in this difficult time.

Chandigarh, April 9:

Punjab Education Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on Thursday, said that no

school should stop the salaries of the staff during national disaster and directed all

private schools to release full salaries to their employees during lockdown period.

The cabinet minister asked the schools to follow the rules and regulations laid

under 'The Punjab Regulation of fee of unaided educational institutional act' which

has been amended to regulate the fee of unaided educational institutions. He added

that no school could demand fees from students on the pretext of online teaching

classes during lockdown period.

The education minister said that all schools should upload the list of books and

colour code of uniform on their website and also paste it on the appropriate

locations in the premises including on notice board.

"Colour, design and any other specification of uniform shall not be changed at least

for two years. Parents are free to buy books and uniform from any shop and if any

school forces them to buy them from any particular shop, strict action will be

initiated against them," he said.

Mr. Singla said that the managements could only sell the badges depicting the logo

of their school for those uniforms which the parents buy from other vendors than

the schools. He added that the home delivery of books by schools through a

particular vendor has also been barred under the act.

Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that the education department has also released an

order under which all the schools have been restricted from demanding admission

fees during lockdown period. He added that the schools should also not charge

transportation fees and books charges from students for the next academic session

till the situation normalizes.

"As many as 48 schools across the state have been issued show cause notices for

defying government directions. All district education officials have been asked to

in Chief Minister Covid-19 Relief fund

Employees of Punjab Scheduled Casts Land Development & Finance Corporation

on Thursday have decided to donate their one-day salary into Chief Minister

Covid-19 relief fund.

Divulging the details, Chairman Engineer Mohan Lal Sood said that donating a

day's salary, the employees have contributed more than Rs. 2.23 Lakh in the relief

fund. Mr. Sood further added that the employees of the corporation have always

been on the front foot in discharge of their social responsibilities.

Last year during floods, the employees also had contributed Rs. one Lakh to the

Chief Minister Relief fund.

Expressing his thanks to the noble gestures of the employees, the Chairman further

said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh Punjab

has become the first state in the state to impose curfew to many save precious lives

here in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Sood called upon people to cooperate in this fight against Corona Virus by

Chandigarh, April 9: Health Ministers of Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry through video conference late last evening, shared best practices adopted in their states to contain the spread of covid-19. Each State/ UT shared its strategy and apprehending future spike in COVID cases agreed upon the need to scale up tracing and testing. Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu, Health Minister Punjab appraised his counter parts that Punjab has ramped up testing capacity ten-fold with the procurement of requisite machines. Punjab intends to launch a rapid testing drive aiming to screen one million people said he. Gearing up for this, acquisition of 10 lakh Rapid Testing Kits (RTK) has been approved by the Punjab Cabinet and order for requisition of one lakh kits from ICMR has been placed. Besides, testing capacity of Viral Research Diagnostic Labs (VRDL) in Government Medical Colleges at Patiala and Amritsar has been increased. Approval for testing at GMC Faridkot, DMC and CMC Ludhiana has also been sought from Government of India, he added. Punjab Health Minister informed that modalities are being worked out for manufacturing PPE kits at Ludhiana which once operational would enable Punjab not just to meet its own requirement but would have sufficient kits to supply to other states.
