EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: Special Projects Coordinator Tenure: 11 month term contract Remuneration: $18.00 per hour Hours of Work: Flexible including evening & weekends Hours Per Week: 35 Reports to: Operations Manager or designate of the Board of Directors Deadline for Applications: Friday, January 20, 2017 – 4:00 pm

DESCRIPTION The responsibility of the Special Projects Coordinator will be to coordinate events, activities and work with members of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation (AoPFN) to successfully meet the increased requests of the AoPFN during the year 2017. The Special Projects Coordinator will also be responsible to assist the Operations Manager in the day-to-day operations of Omàmiwininì Pimàdjwowin (OP), inclusive of the Cultural Centre, Museum & Gift Shop, in order to ensure the community continues to receive consistent programming and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this position.

The Special Projects Coordinator will: Represent and promote OP in a positive and proactive manner by providing information, advice and development of materials as required; Develop and maintain business relationships and ongoing communications with AoPFN Registered members and administration of the AoPFN, and other Municipal, Provincial and Federal representatives as required; Coordinate and ensure professional standards are met for external presentations, educational and entertainment requests; Assist the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operations of OP and ensure accountability in their absence; Contribute to raising awareness of OP and its programs; Attend and assist with classes and/or functions coordinated by OP as designated; Provide Museum tours and complete cashier duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of budget management; Knowledge of the custom and practices of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation; Knowledge of various computer programs, database, spreadsheets and internet applications.

Awareness and/or interest in the Algonquin culture;

Adaptable and self-motivated;

Must be able to work under minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS Must have a post-secondary diploma in a related field, such as Office Administration, Native Studies, Tourism and/or a related field; and/or the equivalent 3 years’ experience in any of the listed fields; 3-5 years related experience; Excellent organizational skills (oral and written) and the ability to excel at details, multi-tasking and to safely and effectively work under pressure; Previous experience with a not-for-profit, boards and committees is considered an asset; Must possess excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making skills and conflict resolution skills; Must have the ability to prioritize and demonstrate experience in all aspects of budget process; Must have retail and cash handling experience; Computer literacy is required, particularly with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation development and internet applications; Must be willing to occasionally work in a dusty area (i.e. basement) Must be able to travel when required and have a current, valid driver’s license, accessible transportation and appropriate insurance; Must have current CPR and First Aid and/or willing to take the training; Must be able to work a flexible schedule and weekends when required; Must provide a current vulnerable sector check. OTHER INFORMATION An eligibility list will be established and interviews will be short-listed to the five (5) most qualified individuals. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. The Hiring Committee will be screening all applicants for conflict of interest (the applicant must not be a member of the supervisor’s immediate family) and the resume submitted to ensure the applicant meets the qualifications listed in this job description.
