III. Develops Medium- and Long-Term Management ScenarioD-Challenge 2025
Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. ("Daihatsu") announced today that it has developed a medium- and long-term management scenario for the period from 2017 to 2025, called D-Challenge 2025.
With a vision of "staying close to customers and enriching lives by making the world's best small cars and working to build a mobility society," Daihatsu announced its Light you up group slogan in 2017 to enhance the value of the Daihatsu brand.
We aim to achieve growth through both MONODUKURI and KOTODUKURI.
To promote the above two challenges, we develop "personnel" who have the Daihatsu-spirit. We let them achieve self-realization, and we let them encourage each other. By doing so, we produce products with thoughtful consideration for our customers so that they can be fully satisfied.
According to the Daihatsu philosophy, "manufacturing" is "human development," and we have and will foster personnel who have a user-oriented point of view, and can act as such.
Main Points of D-Challenge 2025
MONODUKURI▼ Establish the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA)
- Provide a full lineup encompassing mini vehicles, A segment models, and B segment models for emerging countries.- Apply the DNGA to vehicle models planned by the Emerging-market Compact Car Company.- Build closer ties with Toyota Motor Corporation to acquire and incorporate advanced technologies, such as the
electrification of power trains, automated driving, and connected technologies, while taking steps to handle those advanced technologies within Daihatsu's independent system.
- Daihatsu launched the mini vehicle Tanto as the first DNGA product in July 2019, and the compact car Rocky as the second DNGA product in November 2019. We plan to expand the DNGA initiative from Japan to emerging countries.
The value proposition of DNGA The thorough pursuit of the appeal of small cars, under
the key phrase of "advanced technology for all" and founded on "quality and value" that achieves quality—the lifeline of a car—and a price that offers value, while also achieving enhanced performance for driving with peace of mind.
▼ Strategy for emerging countries- Place the top priority on the ASEAN region, including Indonesia and Malaysia where Daihatsu has long cultivated the
market, in carrying out its efforts.- Regarding the compact car business in emerging countries in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, we
established the Emerging-market Compact Car Company to further speed up the development of DNGA products in emerging countries, and will act quickly to meet the needs of customers in those countries.
KOTODUKURI▼ Increase points of contact with customers and local communities.
- Continue grass-roots activities that sales companies and manufacturers have been undertaking independently.- Strengthen ties with society on a group-wide basis on a subject on which Daihatsu will capitalize on its strengths to
contribute to society. Embark on an activity for creating a society that enables the elderly, women, people in rural areas and all others associated with Daihatsu to lead a lively mobility life.

Develops Medium- and Long-Term Management Scenario
– MONODUKURI – Initiatives for Safety and Trust Preventative safety features lead to a future of a new norm
Our wish is to deliver "Safety and Trust" to every user of automobiles. To that end, Daihatsu has developed a variety of preventative safety features, such as Smart Assist, that can be applied to a wide range of vehicle models, and has evolved these features in the pursuit of even greater safety.
[Tsukutsuku Boshi]For existing vehicles not equipped with Smart Assist, Daihatsu has developed Tsukutsuku
Boshi, a retrofit safety device that inhibits sudden acceleration due to causes such as pedal misapplication.
Daihatsu developed Tsukutsuku Boshi out of a desire to minimize the number of deaths and injuries caused by road accidents, and to enable as many customers as possible to live a safe and peaceful life, including existing customers. The system became available for the second-generation Tanto mini vehicle in December 2018. As of the end of March 2020, the technology has been extended to eight models in seven vehicle categories.
We will adapt the technology to additional models as we deliver "Safety and Trust" to more customers at an affordable cost.

Develops Medium- and Long-Term Management Scenario
– KOTODUKURI – CSR Activities and Creation of Daihatsu Fans Broadening and deepening interactions with communities and customers
[Support for Badminton]In our badminton support activities, Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia come
together to energize communities. In Japan, Daihatsu is serving as a Diamond Sponsor of the Nippon Badminton
Association Japanese National Badminton Team, and as an Official Gold Partner of the Japan Para-Badminton Federation Japan Para-Badminton Teams.
[Community-Based Projects]In our Community-Based Projects, industry, government, academia, and citizens collaborate to support independent living
and mobility for senior citizens of any age.Full-scale activities began in May 2017, expanding nationwide in fiscal 2018 to encompass projects. As of the end of March 2020, over 2,800 community
residents have taken part.We will continue expanding and establishing the
activities across the country.Throughout Japan, we conduct Healthy and Safe
Driving Courses through collaboration among industry (Daihatsu and the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF)), government (local governments), academia (the Japanese Physical Therapy Association), and citizens (local societies).
[MONODUKURI Experience Classroom]In the MONODUKURI Experience Classroom, Daihatsu employees visit nearby elementary schools to teach children the
joy of making things and the importance of teamwork.Since the trials that began in fiscal 2015, over 50,000 children have attended (as of the end of March 2020).We named the project "MONODUKURI Experience Classroom" instead of "automobile manufacturing" out of a wish to
develop children's minds by educating the importance of MONODUKURI, gratitude towards things, and teamwork, as well as the automobile manufacturing process.
Many of the participating children have told us that they had fun while learning.
[Participating Company in Tokyo Disneyland®, Tokyo DisneySea®]Daihatsu currently sponsors Tokyo Disneyland Parking, Tokyo DisneySea Parking, and Mermaid Lagoon Theater, as well
as The Happy Ride with Baymax, an attraction scheduled to open in 2020.
