GOV2.0 – Why Do We Need It ?

Public now expects information and services from both the commercial sector and governments:

“anywhere, any time”This expectation is driving governments to

adopt WEB2.0

EVERYTHING HAPPENS SOMEWHERE

Use of Location by Government• Policy development and evaluation

– Why is ‘it’ occurring in this area?– What are the contributing factors played by location?– Why is the policy effective in one location but not

another?• Service delivery

– Victorian Bushfires – using Post Code to identify clients• Internal business processes

– An address is a location,– high costs to government when address are wrong

Location as An Enabler

• An estimated 80% of government information can be linked to a location

• Location can be used as the connection between information– How many unemployed in this suburb?– What employment opportunities exist in this suburb?– Is there a Centre Link Office in the suburb?

• Australian Government Spatial Data Access and Pricing Policy– Over 2000 data sets available at no cost – but potential

for thousands of others.
