Pre-requisites

Your own Amazon AWS account: register at http://aws.amazon.com and follow the instructions

Security credentials of your Amazon AWS account (provided during AWS account creation).

Step 1

Go to the trial landing page at www.sap.com/s4hana-trial SAP S/4HANA, on-premise edition trial

Step 2

You will be presented with the home screen of the SAP Cloud Appliance Library (Get Statrted Log On screen of the SAP Cloud Identity)

Enter your username and password on the Log On screen.

If you do not have an existing account, you can use the Register Now option to setup a new user (free of charge)



Step 3

After you entered your user credentials and logged on you will be presented with the Terms and Conditions. Scroll down to read.

Choose I Accept.



Step 4

The SAP Cloud Appliance Library Instance Creation page will open

Provide your Amazon AWS account

Define the data center region where you would like the appliance to

be hosted

Provide a name for your personal instance

Define the master password for your appliance (this will be needed

to log on as administrator to your appliance)

Click Create Instance

Note on ‘Next 30 days’ cost estimation:

The metric behind the initial estimation is 8 hours of uptime hour in total, (not per day !) since

that is the default in the trial, plus the AWS storage cost for the entire month.

So, if you use the trial really only these 8 hours and don’t terminate your instance for 30 days,

you will roughly end up with those costs.

With this untypical usage pattern, the hourly costs are significantly higher than ~ 4USD.

The cost estimation will be adapted over time depending on your past usage of the appliance

but please make sure that you understand the Amazon cost calculations as detailed on

Step 5

When prompted for the private key, choose Store

– Note: The private key is only needed in case you want to access the Linux operating system of the trial landscape (see here for instructions).

If you store the key within CAL, you can download it later. If you download initially, you can not store it again within CAL.

The system will now be created in your AWS account. Time for this may vary, 45-60 minutes is an average. You may access the remote desktop

earlier but creation of the SAP S/4HANA system will take longer than the remote desktop creation (so even if you can enter the remote desktop

already, the SAP S/4HANA system might not be responding yet)




Instance is ready in INSTANCES tab

Step 6

After approximately 45 minutes your system is ready for logon.

Click on the instance name to view the details of the appliance (see next slide)

Click On the General Properties tab of the details

page you can see the IP addresses of the instance

components

– SAP S/4HANA (ABAP)

– SAP NW JAVA with Adobe Document Services

– Windows Remote Desktop

You will need the three external IP addresses in the

following steps to connect to your instance (Click on

More to see them all). The internal IP addresses are

only needed in case of troubleshooting



Controlling and administering your instance

Step 8

On the overview page you can also start, stop, suspend and terminate the system

– Useful hint: Click the checkbox ‘Termination Protection’ to avoid accidental termination of the instance (termination is final, you have to create a new instance)

‘Suspend’ sends the instance to sleep and saves hosting costs.

– Once the appliance is suspended (takes about 5-10 minutes), an Activate button will appear in the UI that lets you wake up the instance again (takes about 10-15

minutes). Data and state of the instance at the time of ‘Suspend’ are preserved.

– By default, the solution will be automatically suspended after 8 hours. Use “Schedule Configuration” in the details page to define your own ‘uptime’ schedule

– Amazon will charge a small fee for system storage even if the system is suspended but this is significantly less than the 4 USD per uptime hour

It is recommended to use the CAL console for administering the instance (instead of doing it in the AWS Console) to ensure that the

configuration (e.g. IP addresses…) stay consistent



System connection via remote desktop on Windows Frontend Server (option 1)

Step 9a: Connecting to system via Windows Frontend Server

Click on Connect to bring up the access links to the system

Click on ‘RDP / Windows Remote Desktop’ if you would like to use the embedded remote desktop (recommended for first steps with the

appliance). Continue with step 9b.

Note: If you prefer to use client programs on your local computer, see step 10 in this presentation




The user for the remote desktop is ‘Administrator’ with your master password

(see step 4)

Note: depending on your domain settings, you might need to use .\Administrator as user

Step 9b: Connecting to system via Windows Frontend Server

Confirm the pop-up window to allow Remote Desktop Connection




Please note that the Windows Frontend Server allows only two concurrent sessions at the same time.

If you need more concurrent sessions, you can either acquire additional licenses for the Windows Frontend Server (from Microsoft) or

let your users connect from their own computers by adjusting the local hosts file (see step 10 in this presentation).

Step 9c: Connecting to system via Windows Frontend Server

You are now in the pre-configured Windows Frontend Server

The Welcome page (Firefox icon down left on remote desktop) lists Fiori Launchpad

URLs and users for running sample scenarios




Step 9d: Confirming untrusted connection at first browser logon to Fiori Launchpad

When you open the Fiori Launchpad (URL on Welcome page) for the first time on the remote desktop, you will be prompted for an untrusted

connection (since browser and servers in the trial are not connected via a trusted relationship)

For trial purposes, you can ignore those messages by clicking on the buttons as shown below (Firefox example, other browsers may vary)



System connection via your local computer (option 2)

Step 10a: Open your local Windows ‘hosts’ file

Open Notepad on your local PC with the option „Run as administrator“, using right-mouse click.

In Notepad, click on File Open

On your local computer, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Select ‘All Files (*.*)’

Open the hosts file




Step 10b: Open your local Windows ‘hosts’ file

Enter the following lines into the hosts file (blank or tab between IP address and the text). The two IP addresses are the external IP addresses

from step 7

Background information:

With these entries, you can access the system servers with clear-text names

(vhcals4hci, …). These names will automatically be replaced by your browser with the

respective IP addresses




Step 10c: Adapt your browser proxy settings

The trial system uses URLs in a “dummy.nodomain” which might

require a change in your web browser in case there is a web proxy

defined

For Google Chrome

– Logon to Chrome Settings Show Advanced Settings Network

Change proxy settings LAN Settings Proxy Server Advanced

– In the Exceptions, add ;*.dummy.nodomain at the end of the existing entry

(; as separator)

– Click OK

For Internet Explorer

– Logon to Internet Explorer Internet Options Connections LAN Settings

Step 10e: Connecting to the trial system via SAP GUI

Open SAP Logon on your local PC

Add a ‘User Specified System’, with the following values

– Description: Your own definition

– Server: External IP address of the SAP S/4HANA system (see step 7)

of system alias

– Instance number: 00

– System ID: S4H

Logon to SAP GUI, with the following values:

– Client: Select your client (for trial, choose 100)

– User/password: BPINST / Welcome1

Alternatively, you can use the Connect pop-up in the CAL console, that

will bring you directly to the logon screen




Step 10f: Connecting to the SAP HANA DB via HANA Studio

Open SAP HANA Studio on your local PC (SAP HANA Modeler perspective)

Right click in left pane Add System

– Host name : External IP address of the SAP S/4HANA system (see step 7)

– Instance number: 02

– Description: Your own definition

– System ID: HDB (will be automatically filled)

Logon to HANA DB with the following values:

– User: BPINST / Password: Welcome1

– User: SYSTEM / Password: <master password from step 4>
