students are encouraged to explore their interests, to

speak up, think critically and to ask questions.

At Providence, our goal is to develop lifelong learners. We do this through an academically challenging curriculum that stimulates curiosity and connects ideas across subject areas. In every classroom you will be called upon to demonstrate the knowledge you have acquired, to make deep connections, and to apply what you have learned.

Providence offers Honors, Pre-Advanced Placement, Advanced Placement and/or Dual Credit classes in every discipline.

• Honors courses and PreAP courses require the student to accomplish a greater volume of work at a level demonstrably beyond that of a standard or regular course.

• Advanced Placement courses are taught at a college level. Successful completion of an AP class allows a student to take a national final exam for college credit.

• Dual credit courses are college level courses in which the curriculum meets the requirements for both college credit and high school graduation credit.

Students may pursue the Texas Recommended Diploma or the Texas Distinguished Diploma taking core classes in English and Literature, Math and Science, Social Studies, Religion and Foreign Language.

Maybe you would rather edit video, sound or work with special effects. Provet TV is a live newscast produced daily by the Broadcast Media class. Students learn about all aspects of the broadcasting field including producing a live newscast, mini movies, and commercials.

Writers Wanted! Television is not the only outlet for news and information. Newspapers across the world help keep you informed. I didn’t know what to expect on the first day of school freshman year, nerves held my stomach in a death grip that I thought could never be loosened. I had gotten a chance to meet all my new classmates the Friday before at Fish Camp, so I felt a little better, but was still nervous. This year, sophomore year, the first day of school was nothing more than coming home again. During the school year (and summer for that matter) I spend more time at school than my own house, but I don’t mind because everyone at Providence is the large, nearby extended family I’ve never known. Now, I’m an upperclassman, and can’t wait to welcome all the new faces on the first day back! Here, there’s no such thing as upperclassman Bullying; many of my best friends this year were seniors and they treated me no differently (sometimes even forgetting what grade I was in). I hope everyone receives the opportunity to attend a Providence graduation ceremony and cry more than their mothers when their friends walk across the stage for that long-awaited diploma! I have two biological sisters, but many more Provet sisters to share a smile with anytime! -Providence Student Class of 2011

Faith Formation

♦ School Liturgies ♦ Class Retreats ♦ Prayer Experiences

Because of the essential role of prayer in the formation of a personal relationship with God, Providence students participate in varied and regular experiences of prayer.

“Providence is a circle of friends with faith as the center; we’re

going to change the world someday.”

In addition to religious studies classes, each month students attend liturgy. Students work with an advisor to plan services that support spiritual growth, celebrate holidays and continue school traditions. And each year, every class enjoys a retreat for spiritual development and student fellowship. They start small (a day away from campus), but by senior year, students head to the Hill Country for three days and two nights. Students also have access to a chapel, which is used for prayer services, meditation and worship.

Field Day

Many cherished traditions help define the Providence experience. Community building among new students starts before the first class bell. During the week before school incoming prep students and freshman are invited to Prep Camp and Fish Camp. The girls spend the day learning all about Provet life. Once school begins, the new 9th grade class receive their first pins during the Freshman Commissioning Service. Sophomores are re-dedicated and Juniors have a special Ring Ceremony. Senior year is full of special events that culminate in the, Baccalaureate and Graduation. Of course, along the way there are dances – Semi-Formal and Prom. Every year each class 8th –12th, go on retreats starting with a day away from campus and building to a two-night, three day adventure in the Texas Hill Country.
