Norma Zettle never had a problem seeking out health care for herself and her husband.

But when William Zettle encountered a serious medical issue earlier this year, the strain of caring for him and herself at their senior living apartment took a toll. “My nerves were shot. I was stressed so

much that I had a stroke,” Norma Zettle said. Th e York County resident soon re-alized she could no longer manage the

situation alone. “I reached out,” Zettle said. “I didn’t

know what else to do. I was scared.”“When they need services, I help them with getting them — going to see the doctor, managing their medications, just acknowledging that their health is very important, and making them aware of what it is,” said Laff ey, who visits with dozens of residents each week at the fi ve facilities, which are home to more than 450 people aged 62 and over. Her work, which began in May 2016,

is funded by a $60,000 grant from Enter-prise Community Partners, a Maryland-based nonprofi t that supports aff ordable housing initiatives around the country. Th e pilot project is part of Presbyte-rian’s move to expand its “Aff ordable

Housing Plus Services” model, designed to promote healthier lifestyles among independent-living seniors. “Th e intention of the program is to sig-
