Ci UERAL CHARACTERISTICS

Several models have been prepared which are basedon a common design but have been f i t ted with barre ls ofvarying length and v ~ e i g h t The following i s a br ie f summaryof the principal charac ter is t ics common to a l l models.

l . Me thod of Operation The weapon i s gas operatedwith an adjustable regulator to ensure certa inty and smoothness of operation without excessive recoi l . The breech blockis mechanically locked before f i r ing can take place and i snot unlocked unt i l the bul le t has l e f t the barre l . The breechblock be ing in the forward. posi t ion when the t r igger i s pressed, there i s no disturbance of aim due to a heavy mass mo -ving forward, a drawback in many automatic weapons. Afterf i r in g , the mechanism extracts the f i red case and f ee ds a ne wcar t r id ge in to the chamber so lon g as there are rounds inthe magazine. When the magazine i s empty, the breech block

remains to the rear , and ind ica t e s to the f i re r the nee d toreplac e th e magazine.

2. Stabi l i ty By placing the gas cylind er abov ethe barrela n a u y - ca r eful a t t ent ion to design t he l in e ofr ecoi l has bee n kep t as low as possible , resul t in g in a direc tthrust a tsa ins t t lB ·fi r er s should er . l his fea tu re and th elow c ent r e of grav i ty [ iVG grea t s teadiness during f i r ingand r educe th e o n d ~ c y of th e barre l muzzl e to be thrownupwards.
