Under the theme of 2020 Looking Back, Looking Forward, we are pleased to present this prospectus seeking participation, support and sponsorship for the ninth annual Women in Payments Symposium in Toronto on September 22 -23, 2020. The symposium offers an unparalleled forum with perspectives from key women leaders in payments and fintech, and topics impacting all aspects of the payments ecosystem and career development. UNICORN CHALLENGE

Four fintech start-ups pitch their solutions to a panel of esteemed judges and a full audience in a timed and moderated setting.

FACILITATION

Women in Payments will manage logistical details for the Unicorn Challenge, including marketing and promotion, call for competi-tors, on-site logistics, and selection and management of judges.

PRIZES

Competitors will have a chance to win the “Judges’ Choice” award which earns them a one-hour meeting with leading banks and networks. An “Audience Choice” award will also be presented to a competitor, as voted by the audience via a live-voting app.

The objectives of the Unicorn Challenge are to:

– Showcase the value and innovation that fintechs bring to the market

– Provide women fintech start-ups the oppor-tunity to practice their pitch in front of a large audience of industry stakeholders

– Demonstrate the value of collaboration and cooperation in partnerships between fintechs and market incumbents

Kristy Duncan founded Women in Payments in 2012, a global initiative that connects, inspires, and champions women across the fintech and payments verticals. Women in Payments conferences, awards and mentor-ship programs are now run in Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Asia.

Kristy is an avid supporter of women-led fintechs, as investor and advisor to three women-founded and led fintechs: FI.SPAN, Digital Retail Apps, and ThriveSavings. She has been invited to judge accelerators and fintech contests in Canada and Australia.

Prior to founding Women in Payments, Kristy consulted extensively in payments and fintech, where her clients included financial institutions and other leaders and stake-holders in the global payments arena. Kristy also worked at a tier one Canadian bank, in leadership positions in global transaction banking, treasury, finance and operations.

Named as one of the Top 100 Women in Fintech by LATTICE80 & MISS KAYA in 2018 and 2019, and on the Lloyd’s Bank Women in Fintech Power List in 2017, Kristy is frequently invited to speak at global indus-try fora on topics of payments innovation, fintech, and diversity. Kristy is a registered Professional Engineer, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering from the University of Toronto.
