AS Media Studies Coursework Name: Proposal Form My idea for the brief: My idea is a music magazine focusing on country music as my specialised sub-genre. I will use a simplistic 3 colour scheme to keep my magazine minimal and I have used colours that compliment each other on the page. I have decided to call my magazine, Play That Banjo, as I feel it is memorable and will stand out on a magazine stand. I want everything on my magazine to be relatable to country as this is my chosen music sub-genre. My double page spread will consist of an interview with an award-winning artist. Genre: Texts that have inspired me and the design of my magazine are, Nash Country Weekly and Maverick, which are two best selling country music magazines. Target audience: My target audience will be anyone over 15 as I feel the country music audience is slightly more mature in this century. I also will try to base my design of the magazine such as my dominant image on my front cover dependant on my biggest target audience age. Certain audiences will only pick up a magazine dependant on whether they like the model. Major conventions: I will use major conventions such as a masthead, main sell line, and dominant images, sell lines etc. As this will stand out most to the audience is that the magazine has some substance to it rather than just the marketing edge of a popular celebrity as the dominant image. I will also use page numbers to create an easily used contents page. I will also use a pull quote on my front cover and double page spread. Conventions I wont use: I am using most well known conventions as they are necessary and effective within magazine, yet some conventions are invalid within the structure and design of my magazine such as bright colours that have no purpose in being included in my design or a sub image, adding to a pointless and un-relatable sell line. Original images: I have a mid shot of my model against a blank background with bold clothing to bring attention to her posture. I

My idea for the brief:My idea is a music magazine focusing on country music as my specialised sub-genre. Major conventions:I will use major conventions such as a masthead, main sell line, and dominant images, sell lines etc. As this will stand out most to the audience is that the magazine has some substance to it rather than just the marketing edge of a popular celebrity as the dominant image. I will also use page numbers to create an easily used contents page. I will also use a pull quote on my front cover and double page spread.

Conventions I wont use:I am using most well known conventions as they are necessary and effective within magazine, yet some conventions are invalid within the structure and design of my magazine such as bright colours that have no purpose in being included in my design or a sub image, adding to a pointless and un-relatable sell line.Original images:I have a mid shot of my model against a blank background with bold clothing to bring attention to her posture. I may also add a sub image if I feel it is necessary and need to include something to make my front cover look more filled. I am planning on using a close up shot for my contents page and then changing again to a full body shot for my double page spread. I am also planning on having my model holding a prop for the double page spread dominant image as I feel it will add to the distinction of my country sub genre. Props could include, a banjo, guitar, and microphone.Potential difficulties/ Plan B:If my model cannot make it to my photo shoot due to a filled schedule I will have to find a new model or book a studio to take photos of edit and style myself whilst directing each shot to my own liking.
