About St Andrew’s

Why Sponsor?

About ASPIRE

St Andrew’s Anglican College is a Prep to Year 12 co-educational school based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. At just 16 years old, St Andrew’s has almost 1300 students who partake in a wide range of curricular and co-curricular offerings, including Academic, Music, The Arts, Outdoor Education and Sport. In particular the College’s Music Program has grown to be well respected both locally and Nationally, with over 600 students participating in co-curricular Music lessons and ensembles each week.

Given the success of 2018, the College Music Department is looking to increase student participation in a wide range of tours and festivals, including the well-renound ASPIRE Festival, which are vital to create a varied program of performance opportunities for these developing musicians. These experiences do come at a cost to families with travel, accommodation and transporting precious instruments. Your sponsorship will ensure that all students in the participating ensembles have the financial ability to attend as your contribution will directly subsidise the accomodation costs for approximately 130 students. Your support will enhance student learning and love of all things music while at the same time increasing your business exposure in our extensive community.

ASPIRE is an International youth music festival open to Secondary Students and held in a different centre in Australia every second year. In 2019, the festival will be held on the Gold Coast, over four days in July. ASPIRE features sections with concert bands, orchestras, choirs and jazz bands. ASPIRE is a competition which fosters a culture of music excellence where every student experiences a masterclass, a workshop which culminates in a public performance.

ASPIRE is a not-for-profit festival which attracts a high calibre of music professionals to guide and inspire young musicians. Last year, in their first year of participation, the St Andrew’s Wind Ensemble won their section and the St Andrew’s Jazz Orchestra received the People’s Choice Award. Quite an achievement for a relatively new school on the Sunshine Coast competing against some well-regarded, more established schools.

Meet some of our students and staff

The Aspire International Youth Music Festival is a wonderful opportunity that is still close to home but offers the many musical and social benefits of interacting with and competing against like-minded students from across the globe who all have a passion for Music. Throughout the Festival the students have multiple performance opportunities to work in small groups and as whole ensembles with some of the best music clinicians in the world. These workshops and masterclasses will give them the tools to improve their individual abilities on their instruments and as musicians. The will also have the opportunity to listen to and compete against other ensem-bles with the chance to interact with these students throughout the Festival. It is an inspiring, affirming and educational experience for our students to meet peers who share the same interest in Music but can have very different experiences and journeys to their own. The beauty of an International Music Festival such as ASPIRE, is the bringing together of students from all over the world to share in the universal language of Music.

Touring opportunities at St Andrew’s throughout my schooling were always something to look forward to and consistently delivered a positive experience. Not only have the trips consisted of amazing performance opportunities outside of the Sunshine Coast, but they also provide a goal throughout the year for participating ensembles to work towards with the pressures of a different audience and performance environment proving a useful incentive in the development of the group. A noticeable step up in the overall musicianship of the group was evident after the several trips I took part in over Secondary school and this was useful for getting the best out of the Eisteddfod performances shortly after. This can mainly be attributed to a greater work ethic leading up to these trips from students and for some students, the various workshops and activities with well know musicians can provide useful skills and motivation. Overall the music trips at St Andrew’s are always an opportunity I would never want to miss out on and something I would always recommend to students in younger years.

Touring opportunities at St Andrew throughout my schooling were always something t

Participating in the 2017 ASPIREMusic Festival was an experience that I will never forget. Having the opportunity to work within the Brisbane Conservatorium and performing on the main stage was truly an experience of its own. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to perform in public spaces such as Queen Street Mall, The French Festival, Old Government House and Bulimba Golf Club. Each place as atmospheric, cheerful and enjoyable as the other. As well as rehearsals and performances, we also participated in a range of activities organised by the ASPIRE Festival, alongside many other students from all over the world. These activities included things such as workshops, masterclasses etc. and they gave us the opportunity to meet and connect with new, talented and inspiring people. The overall experience was truly amazing, and I would jump at the opportunity to go back and do it all again.
