This year you will be taking the Integrated Performance Task, or IPT.

The IPT is not a standardized, multiple-choice test.

(ANIMATION X appears on top of picture.)2

What is the IPT?

On the IPT, you will receive a booklet and read about a real-life situation3

What is the IPT?

Then you will make a choice.

You will use your critical thinking, problem solving, and writing skills to answer two questions on the IPT.4The IPT Rubric

You should have a copy of the IPT Rubric.

The rubric tells you how your answers will be scored on the IPT.

You should try to get a Level 3 or a Level 4 score.

This rubric will be on the last page of the booklet your teacher will give you when you take the IPT.5Questions = Prompts

UNBELIEVABLE?MISLEADING?CORRECT?INCORRECT?Critical Thinking

BELIEVABLE?

The questions on the IPT are called prompts.

The first prompt will tell you to look at information on one page of the booklet.

You will use your critical thinking skills to decide if all of the information on that page is correct and believable.

If you see any information that is not correct or believable, you will write about it and explain why you think the information is incorrect, unbelievable, or misleading.

Misleading means that it might lead someone away from the truth.

(ANIMATION Questions = Prompts fades out. Correct and Believable fade in and then out. Incorrect, Unbelievable, and Misleading fade in and out one at a time.)6Critical ThinkingFind and explain examples of incorrect, unbelievable, or misleading information.oPrompt 1

Your answer to Prompt 1 will be scored at Level 3 or 4 in Critical Thinking if you can find several examples of incorrect, unbelievable, or misleading information on the page you are told to look at.

Then you must write about these examples and explain why each example is incorrect, unbelievable, or misleading. 7THIS CHOICETHAT CHOICEREASONREASONREASONA choice with supporting reasonsProblem Solving

The second prompt on the IPT will ask you to make a choice and give reasons to support your choice.

You should use your problem solving skills and write an answer that will persuade or convince someone that your choice is better than the other choice.

(ANIMATION That Choice disappears and each Reason box appears. Then A choice with supporting reasons appears.)8Problem SolvingRecommend one choice and support your choice with many well-explained reasons.Prompt 2

Before you answer Prompt 2, think about all of the information in the IPT booklet so you can make a wise choice.

To get a Level 3 or 4 score in Problem Solving, you should give several important reasons that support your choice.9

Written Communication

Prompt 2 will also be scored for Written Communication.

You will use your writing skills to organize your ideas when you answer Prompt 2.

Your final answers to the prompts must be typed on the computer.

You may write an outline or rough draft in your booklet, or you may begin typing on the computer when you are ready to answer the prompts.

(ANIMATION Pencil, paper, and computer fade in and out.)10Written CommunicationOrganize information and ideas into a clear, detailed answer for the intended audience.Prompt 2
