Kohl’s is currently running a unique baby registry promo. The retailer wants to make sure customers know that it can compete with all the other baby stores and departments out there. The promo highlights baby clothes, strollers, car seats and cribs in the Kohl’s baby department.

BABY EVENT

Walmart, Target and JCPenney also had sales on baby items this week. Walmart’s sale featured baby carriers, cribs, jogger carriers and breast pumps. Target’s included strollers, cribs and monitors. And JCPenney’s included baby clothes, high chairs, strollers, cribs and furniture.

This week’s Saks Fifth Avenue gift guide focused on spring themes, and highlighted many unconventional designer items with floral patterns, including yoga bags, hats, sunglasses and vases. Nordstrom also ran a promo with a “warming trends” theme. It featured a mix of conventional, flower-patterned dresses and bathing suits and summer-patterned phone cases, handbags and clutches.

Plenty of other retailers ran summer-themed promotions this week, too. Sears and Macy’s had sales on bathing suits and sandals, Target featured beach and patio furniture and bikes, and Bloomingdale’s promoted sandals and summer clothing. Macy’s also had sales on other summer-themed items, such as luggage, blenders and juicers, large pots (for cooking shellfish and lobsters), and barware (for summer cocktail parties). As is usually the case with Sears, it emphasized outdoor activities, with sales on pools, swings and trampolines. Kmart also focuses on fun outdoor leisure, and this week it featured camping items, pools, swings and trampolines. In addition, Kmart promoted garden-related products—including seeds, flowers, trimmers and lawn mowers—more heavily than other stores did.

Walgreens had sales on many summer products, such as fans, sunscreen, outdoor toys and allergy medications, that appeal to customers of all ages. And, continuing with the recent health promo trend that many retailers have been on, Walgreens offered four pages of sales on various vitamins and supplements in its circular.

SUMMER PRODUCTS

Target seems to be attempting to set itself apart from other stores by emphasizing newer technology items. This week, the company ran sales on a GoPro, wireless charging pads, wireless headphones and a Bluetooth Karaoke System.

TECHNOLOGY

Sears has long been known for its appliance and home item promotions, and this week was no exception. The company offered refrigerators, washers and dryers, dishwashers, ovens, mattresses, and vacuums on sale.

PROMO HIGHLIGHTS


Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and House of Fraser have all focused on the beginning of summer as their campaign theme. Debenhams is the only retailer which has included a discount but it is known to have more frequent offers than the other department stores so this isn’t unusual.

With the arrival of summer, the wedding season and run up to Prom is officially upon us. UK department stores House of Fraser and Debenhams have both sent out related offers this week While House of Fraser has focused on womenswear, Debenhams has aimed for the male market with smart, lightweight suits.
