RESIDENCE - RETREAT FOR H.B. JAIRAJ EXTENT OF INVOLVEMENT • Conceptual design stage and site development. • Working drawings, bill quantities. • Co ordination with consultants. • Site supervision. SITE •Flat terrain of 2500 sq.m. located in Bangalore. • Existing coconut trees and mango trees on site. DESIGN RESOLUTION • To make the built form move around the trees via a spine corridor, thus creating courts which connect visually within the house. • Entertainment areas - ground floor and more private areas - first floor with terraces. CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY • R.C.C framework with hollow clay blocks for the vaulted roof and floor slabs. These hollow clay blocks serve to regulate an optimum temperature. • Powder coated aluminum sections used for door windows. Bedroom doors made out of wood sections. •Mild Steel pergola box sections with ‘damplon’ roofing. NORTH EAST ELEVATION
1 First floor landing level with a double height entrance space and court on either side
2 View towards court with mango trees and corridor connector. The corridor opens out to the court and links it to the living room which opens to the pool and garden area at the other end.
3 Double height entrance lobby serves to visually connect the upper spaces. It also creates a sense of arrival with the play of volumes.
