•Project designed for 6th grade students using math standards•Students designed, budgeted, and

modeled a classroom for Theodore Roosevelt School

Reasons• 6th graders at Theodore Roosevelt scored

lowest on the areas of perimeter and area on last year’s state assessments

• I wanted to make perimeter and area more hands-on so they really understood the concepts

• USD 383 is facing remodeling and building new classrooms in the near future

• Project grew to incorporate more math concepts and to establish motivation

In order to get to the project layout

• Students were put in groups of two.• As a group, they had to figure the perimeter of

our classroom in feet precisely in order to break the code.
