ACE, an acronym for Awareness, Care & Empowerment was founded by Krishnan & Sudha on the conviction that experiences and encounters are powerfully effective pedagogical tools. German Jewish Philosopher Martin Buber, perhaps, expresses this conviction most aptly when he states: “the only way to learn is through encounter.” Deeply inspired by this idea ACE set out on a mission to use deeply impactful unique, experiential entertainment as a medium to educate individuals on socially relevant subjects.

As a first step towards the fulfillment of this mission, ACE brought the world famous “Dialogue in the Dark” exhibit to India in year 2011.

Take1 is the culmination of ACE’s belief that powerful empathy experiences like Dialogue will lead to a more diverse and inclusive society.

Take1, since July 2014 has been engaging with corporates and the society at large who have been sensitized at Dialogue in the Dark about the abilities of PwD’s leading to creation of employment opportunities for them.

In the year 2009, Krishnan founded ACE which is the culmination of his long years of personal passion and desire of enhancing human experiences in the field of knowledge education. Krishnan has 20 years of rich corporate experience spanning the areas of business ideation, business process & operation management, financial planning & financing, project management, etc.

As Co-Founder & COO, Sudha heads the entire DID operations and also leads the training activities of the visually impaired. A management graduate with a post-graduation in psychology Sudha brings the much required human behavioral aspects to the disability sector.

Altering Mindset ofFuture India!

“Dialogue in the Dark” teaches Diversity with its unique and highly entertaining exhibition in which visually impaired guides lead visitors, in groups of up to 8 people, through a series of completely darkened galleries. In these galleries, students perform daily activities without the power of a person’s dominant sense – SIGHT. Students discover what it is like to sit at a café, visit a park, play Cricket, Touch and Smell a variety of grocery items in a Super Market without the power of their eyesight. The entire tour takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

With nearly 1 Million companies operating in India, Take 1 is truly an attempt to build an inclusive corporate work force.

The TAKE1 Impact:

Imagine a new inclusive India wherein PwD’s are included in the workforce of each and every Corporate by hiring just 1 person with disability in their organization. This would result in the corporate sector creating 1 million jobs in just 1 year. If each corporate appreciates the benefit of hiring PwD and chooses to add more PwD to their work-force, India can create the much needed employment opportunity for all the 7 million PwD who are eligible for jobs & are waiting in their wings to work & contribute to the Indian economy.

WHY TAKE1?

India spends close to Rs 10,000 crores annually just to cater to the basic needs of 7 million disabled people who otherwise can find economic independence through Jobs.

Equally shocking is the fact that in the last 67 years since Independence, India has not been able to create enough jobs for PwD

TAKE1 aims to dramatically change this landscape by enrolling the support of corporates and create jobs for the PwD's.

In partnership with the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC), ACE – Dialogue in the Dark has launched the Take1 Project – a pan India movement to empower 1,00,000 persons with Disabilities (PwD) with wage-employment & self-employment opportunity over next 10 years.

Why Self Employment program?

India Census 2011 reveals that more than 70% of the 26.8 million PwD Population lives in Rural Areas. A whopping 52% of them are Illiterate. And most of them do not have mobility to travel for education from the villages that they live in. Further 3/4th of the literate PwD population has either crossed their age limit (15-29) or do not have the right skills to obtain a job.

What happens to this PwD population who do not get wage employment/do not have a source of income/ neither gets the support to make a living.

Cool Opportunity For Economic Empowerment aptly called “COFEE” is a unique self-employment opportunity to economically empower the most marginalized sector., the PwD sector with the much needed opportunity to earn their living & lead a life of pride, dignity & self-respect.

50,000 rural PwD will be selected, recruited & trained to become COFEE owners over the next 10 years in their respective Villages, Mandals & living areas to roll out the Rural Retail outlets offering cool products & beverages.

THE INDIAN PwD YOUTH LANDSCAPE AS IT STANDS TODAY

The Demography PwD Population:26.8 Million PwD (Official estimates) 70 % are in Rural areas 52% are illiterate 26.8 Mn PwD population is spread across 29 states, 600 districts and 6 lakh villages in India.

Livelihood Landscape 15.7 Million PwD’s: in the employable age of 15-59 years 77.9 Lakh PwD’s in the employable age group are non-workers.

Wage Employment program

The Take1 Project aims to empower 50,000 PwD in the next 10 years with market linked vocational skills training leading to job creation in the private sector.

ACE plans to setup 150 “Employment Enhancing Vocational Skills Training Programs” on a pan India level. PwD aspirants will be trained in different Sectors namely IT&ITES, Accounting and Finance, Retail, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Facility Management etc.

Take1 strongly believes that a Successful Training Center and a Meaningful Placement will require the 4 P strategy (Person, Place, Position and Placement), Local PwD candidate, Local Training and Local Corporate Placement each of which focuses on shifting the paradigm in PwD Training and employment creation.

The activities of the NSDC - ACE - Take1 Project qualifies under the mandatory CSR guidelines as per the Item 2, Schedule VII of the Companies Bill 2013 - An extract of the same is provided below:

G.S.R, 130(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (l) of section 467 of the Companies Act, 20l3 (18 of 2013), the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments to Schedule Vll of the said Act, namely: - {1} In Schedule VIl, for items (i) to (x) and the entries relating thereto, the following items and entries shall be substituted, namely :-

(ii) Promoting education, including special education and employment enhancing vocation skills especially among children, women, elderly, and the differently abled and livelihood enhancement projects;
