Brochure DescriptionA two sided (Duplex) folding brochure for an organization that I created, called “World Scouting.” Dates12/5/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsIllustrator, InDesign

Objectives -Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.-Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.-Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.-Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process For this project I started off by brainstorming ideas on what company I could create. During this process, I thought about my specific passions. I also thought about the categories I could have in my brochure for the companies I came up with. Once I finished this, I went on Illustrator and I created the Logo for World Scouting. Once I created the logo, I created the brochure on InDesign. I also added pictures to my brochure. I played with two of the photos I have on my brochure on Photoshop. This helps me to have the background I wanted on the images rather than the original image. Once I came up with my final brochure. I printed out the brochure and I made a crisp fold. Once I had my crisp fold, I trimmed the white edges.

Montage DescriptionAn inspirational montage by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

Dates10/24/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsPhotoshop

Objectives-Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message-Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks-Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements-Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image-Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures…your choice)-Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s)

Process I first changed the images to the size I wanted them on my flier. I then went back and I changed the Vibrancy and the Saturation. I changed this to Vibrancy: -20 and Saturation: -5. Once I did that, I changed the eyes to an “overlay” and I blended the eyes with the mountains. I then added text and I made the text match the colors in both pictures, this color is Gold. I also changed the Filter to “Un-sharpen the Mask” on the eyes. I changed this to 60.

Logos DescriptionThree logo variations for a company I created called, “All About Music.”

Dates 10/31/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsIllustrator

Objectives-Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.-Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them.-Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)-Refine one logo with variations for color

ProcessIn order to create the Logos, I used Adobe Illustrator. The design I used was actually the first idea that I created. In order to pick between 3 different designs, I had 10 people vote on which one they liked the best. Once I had a winner, I changed the logo by fixing the alignment and the font. After that, I created 2 more versions of the logo. I had the original, then I created and black and white logo. After that, I created a white out version.

Event Ad DescriptionA full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser that I imagined called, “Smoothies for a Change.”

Dates10/10/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsMicrosoft Word

Objectives -Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)-Find, scan and import a high-quality image.-Create a full-bleed design.-Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.-Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

ProcessI had to restart my process for designing a flier at least three times. I picked some really cool pictures, but I could not get them to look good on Microsoft with color schemes that I wanted. I then decided to just start looking in different books and magazines. As I was looking I would ponder what I could do with the pictures I was seeing. I finally found a couple different smoothie pictures that I really liked. Once I found a picture I liked, it felt like everything was falling into place. I did have to change my original color scheme idea, but I am really happy with how my ad turned out. I decided since smoothies are fun, I needed to create a fun title with a fun, decorative font. I also had a tutor help me come up with the layout of the title.

StationeryDescription This is stationery I created for a company I made up called, “Georgia Peaches.”

Dates11/7/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsIllustrator, InDesign

Objectives-Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image- Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. -Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.-Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

ProcessI created the stationery and the business card by using InDesign. The peaches were created in Illustrator. Once I created the peach, I determined the color scheme. After that, I decided on ideas on how I wanted to use repetition. The reason I wanted to do stationery on peaches is because I am from Georgia, and that is what we are famous for.

Flier DescriptionThis flier is a Black and White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

Dates10/3/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsInDesign

Objectives-Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.-Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.-Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.-Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process I first started this project by coming up with four designs. Once I was ready to create a flier on a computer, I went to Adobe’ InDesign Program. I emphasized the word, “Leadership,” in my flier. This word was emphasized because I felt like the message was more for those that want to learn more about leadership. With the whole title, I used two different colors, black and grey. The reason I did this was to go more with the logo.

Photo Design Description: A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop.

Dates10/17/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsPhotoshop

Objectives -Learn basic photography skills.-Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.-Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.-Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)-Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.5×11 page layout.-Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Process I actually came up with the idea for this project right before I went to sleep one night. I then sketched out a couple designs of what I wanted with my ad. When I was actually in the orchards, it was harder to get the picture I had imagined. Over all, I am happy with the pictures I took. The picture I used, I love how the apples were all over the ground. I also love how the light was hitting the ground and the apples. I also love how I can easily see the focus and composition of the picture.

Montage 2: My Family DescriptionA montage for my married siblings.

Dates12/10/15

Course/InstructorComm 130: Visual MediaBen Pingel

ProgramsPhotoshop

Process I first changed the images to the size I wanted them on my flier. I first found the images I wanted to use for this project. I knew I wanted to have The Family: A Proclamation To The World. I then had my siblings send me their favorite picture from their wedding day. Once I had all the images, I croped the images of my siblings. I then placed their images on top of The Family: A Proclamation To The World. Once I placed the images, I added a layer mask. I then used the brush tool and I changed the opacity of the image.
