Description:This is photograph taken for an application at a photography studio; for which I needed

to demonstrate good photography and image editing skills. This image is to portray an

understanding how to get a good, sharp exposure with nice composition, then also perform

basic edits, plus crop and size the image on a page. Above is a 8.511 page with the

cropped image that has been edited. Below is the original.

    Process:

This image was taken and re-sized to fit the 66 criteria. I used Photoshop to make all

the edits including partially desaturating the bark and some of the leaves. I also increasedthe contrast to make the colors of bright leaves stronger and increased their saturation toenhance them further. I also applied the texturizer filter to make the image more interesting.

    objectives:

Your potential employer wants to see if you understand howto get a good, sharp exposure with nice composition, then also perform basic edits, pluscrop and size the image on a page. It will be vital to follow the editing, cropping and sizing

instructions to demonstrate the skills needed for this job. You will submit a printed 8.511page with the cropped image, plus send a link to your blog post that shows the original, unedited image, an edited version that is cropped to a square, and a final project with theedited image on a white 8.511 page.

Description:I was in charge of creating a new and fresh inspirational poster using a composite of images

and type. A photo montage involves the blending of two or more images with text. I created an

inspirational montage by using a layer mask to blend images. These images were found online

    and put together using Photoshop.

    Process:

These images were found online and put together in a Photoshop document. In Photoshop,

I used a mask to lower the opacity of the girl and blend the two images. I also used the

texturizer filter on the girl to bring in some noise and contrast without losing the color in theimage. I then added the text and gave the title text a slight outer glow and drop shadow to

    bring it out even more.

    objectives:

You are in charge of creating a new and fresh inspirational poster using a composite ofimages and type. A photo montage involves the blending of two or more images with text. Youwill create an inspirational montage by using a layer mask to blend images. You may use yourown photos or gather some from the internet.

Description:I was asked to create a brochure to help promote a company product. This was to use at

least four images and a logo previously designed for the company.

    Process:

I created this project in InDesign. I first set the measurements as they are appropriate for abrochure and then designed accordingly. I used Photoshop to crop the image of the motherand child, then put a mask over the rest of the image to make it transparent. I used basicdesign principles such as alignment and repetition to tie the brochure together. I took the

colors from the logo and used them throughout the brochure, so the logo would look like itbelonged.

    objectives:

Your employer wants you to design a full-color, folding brochure to help promote the companyproduct, service or location. You may use any folding brochure design you want. Brochurescome in all sizes and shapes. Any duplex (two-sided) folding document can be considereda brochure. Therefore the size parameters for this project are wide open. The purpose ofyour brochure may be informational or advertising. You may choose any topic, from newskateboard styles, to the latest spor ts car, to a family newsletter. Make this something you

enjoy. You should use all three programs you have learned to create your brochure as youdesign your logo in Illustrator, edit your images in Photoshop, and design your brochure layoutin InDesign, as it is the only program that allows you to create a multiple page document.

Description:I was asked to design three different logos for a company that would best communicate

their brand using Adobe Illustrator. Each logo is an original design.

    Process:

After choosing a company to represent, I used the Illustrator text, shape, brush and line tools

to create three distinct logos to represent the brand. It was crucial to remember the order of

the objects, so each is in its right place.

objectives:A company/individual approaches you and asks you to design their logo. They leave it up to

you to do some research for insight on what type of logo would best communicate their brand.

They ask you to design three, completely different, variations for their consideration.

We are surrounded by logos, each sending its own unique message about the company it

represents. When designing a logo for a company, be sure to consider the audience and

create something that fits the personality of the group it will represent. Furthermore, a

logo should be unique and easily remembered. You should also create a variety of choices,

then gather opinions to see what appeals to others. Be sure to read the assigned pages

and follow the instruction guide closely as you create your logos.

Description:This is an event ad for the local Chamber of Commerce sponsored cookie exchange for the

senior citizens center. I was asked to design a flyer (B&W or color) to promote the event. Itwas designed using only Microsoft Word.

    Process:

I was asked to scan an image and use Microsoft Word with the image to create an add foran event. Only Microsoft Word was used in creating the ad. This ad uses repetition in thecolors, using red and green in the holiday spirit. It also shows proximity and alignment,

especially in the placement of the texts.

    objectives:

You will use your scanned image to create an event ad that will promote a fundraiserof your choice for the Chamber of Commerce. The amazing, hidden design features ofMicrosoft Word may surprise you. Even though it is a bit more cumbersome to design withWord, you can stil l replicate most design functions with this versatile word processor.

Description:The company I have been requested a web page of one of the logos with a description of

the design process that demonstrates basic HTML and CSS skills.

    Process:

For this project, I used text wrangler to format the HTML and create the text for the web page.

I included a 253 word description of my logo and what went into making and designing it. I

then used CSS to create the color and look of my web page. I matched colors using photoshop

and also used photoshop to resize my logo created previously for the stationery and business

card. I feel this page employs contrast very nicely between the black and white accentsthroughout the design.

    objectives:

A potential employer requests a web page of one of your logos with a description of the

design process that demonstrates basic HTML and CSS skills.

Description:This is the new flier design for Vouant Communications. It advertises an upcoming graduate

leadership conference in a pleasing and practical way.

    Process:

I was provided with images and text, but was given the task to create and design a fliergiven that information. This flier was created in the InDesign program. I used principlessuch as alignment and contrast to really inspire the design. I made a banner at the top inthe black to emphasize the title and contrast with the white letters and white space. The

Alignment really gives the work a sense of structure and cleanliness.

    objectives:

Now its time to design a flier, the first large project for your por tfolio. Your employer puts youin charge of a news flier. He gives you the information, a logo and one image to use. He asksyou to create a new layout that will be attractive and more inviting to read.
