  • 1. THE MEANING OF THE U.S. FLAG The stars in the U.S. flag represent the 50states and its stripes are the thirteen originalcolonies. Each color has a meaning to the flag. Thewhite represents its purity and innocence.Blue did not have a meaning until 1777. Itnow stands for the chief, which is justice,vigilance, and perseverance. Red is thevalor and the hardiness.

2. BODIES OF WATER SURROUNDING THE UNITEDSTATES The Pacific Ocean borders the west coast ofthe united states. The Atlantic Ocean borders the east coast ofthe united states. The Gulf of Mexico borders Texas, Louisiana,Mississippi, Alabama, Florida. 3. CHESAPEAKE BAY Is the largest estuaries in the United States! More than 150 rivers and streams end hereand it is connected to the Atlantic Ocean. The states that border Chesapeake bay areVirginia and Maryland. 4. PUGET SOUND Washington is the only state that borders itand it is shared with Canada. It also connects to the Pacific Ocean It is the second largest estuary. 5. GREAT SALT LAKE It is found in Utah, you cant drink water fromthis lake because of its saltiness. It believed to be created by an iceberg thatwas left from the last ice age. Due to the saltiness of the lake there is alimited amount of aquatic life. 6. NIAGARA FALLS The Niagara Falls is actually 3 different falls. Canada and the state of New York border it. The water from the falls flows into the greatlakes. 7. THE GREAT LAKES The Great Lakes are actually 5 lakes. Their names are Superior, Michigan, Huron,Erie, Ontario. The lakes are also used as a natural borderbetween the United States and Canada. 8. THE MISSOURI RIVER Missouri River- is one of the longests river inthe United States, it also flows into theMississippi River. It flows through 7 states. The name Missouri means those who havedug out canoes. 9. THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER The name Mississippi was given to it byIndians it means big river. It runs through 10 states and it ends at thegulf of Mexico. 10. THE OHIO RIVER Runs through 6 states And has 20 dams 11. THE HUDSON RIVER The Iroquois called it the Mohegan Creates the border between new jersey andNew York The Hudson river also connects to theMohawk river. 13. THE COLOMBIA RIVER This river begins in Canada and ends up inthe Pacific Ocean The Colombia river connects to the snakeriver . It is also known as big river. 14. THE RIO GRANDE This river serves as a natural border betweenthe state of Texas and Mexico. This river begins in Colorado and ends in theGulf of Mexico. 15. UNITED STATES FACTS As of July 2011 its population was 313,232,044. Based on land area the U. S. is the largest country inthe world. 44 presidents have lead the United States, as oftoday. The new president is Barack Obama and he isserving his second term. George Washington was the 1st president of theUnited States. Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States. 16.
