Project 192 addresses Sustainable Community Development through affordable housing. Conventional affordable housing does not cre-ate functioning communities, and only detracts from the sustainability of the community as a whole. Project 192 is a model for addressing these issues while providing safe, healthy and green housing for low income individuals.

t 192the problem:

conventional affordable housing is poorly designed, poorly built, and environmentally unfriendly

Conventional affordable housing is overcrowded, poorly constructed, and of uninspired design – the affordable homes of today are des-tined to become the slums of tomorrow.

t 192Problem:

Conventional affordable housing doesn’t integrate well with existing communities. This results in sprawling developments placed far from

city center and lacking essential services.

Solution:

Project 192’s small footprint allows it to be placed within the existing fabric of the community. Project 192 is perfect for infill development,

as well as for new micro developments within the community.

2Problem:

Conventional affordable housing is built with low initial cost, but ongoing costs, in the form of building maintenance and energy costs, are high.

Solution:

Project 192 uses Structural Insulated Panels to produce a superior building envelope, both in terms of insulation performance, and structural rigidity. Additionally, project 192 employs

other energy saving technologies, such as a tankless, on-demand water heater.

Structural Insulated Panels are factory pro-duced, and assembled on site. The entire house can be built in less than two weeks.

The tankless water heater is far more efficient than conventional models, while taking up considerably less space.

t 192Problem:

Homes with the fea-tures of project 192 are expensive.

Solution:

Project 192 costs less than other homes with similar features; a complete project 192 home can be bought for just over $29,000.
