“THE BOOK IN OTHER WORDS”Two days of book-related activities in townTUESDAY 6/5/2014 & WEDNESDAY 7/5/2014

With a variety of activities and events, and as a result of a wider collaboration between bodies, groups and people, “the book in other words” attempts to bring the book to unexpected sites and to highlight its relationship with the public space:

The moving book kiosk, a small, moving, book-related kiosk stops at different places in the city and promotes the idea of bookcrossing. With literature as a vehicle, a city with a rich literary history. Two thematic walks, two routes in the city centre at various historical sites. Books in the courtyard: Thessaloniki is left with few beautiful courtyards which could be of special use. We choose 4 of them in order for us to welcome writers and their audience to a meeting with books. We offer readers a sightseeing tour regarding the history of courtyards and their buildings and then writers read extracts from their books. Children and

books: In two of the future libraries of the city, Ms. Sofia Souparis organizes an original game of knowledge, love and creation regarding books and a game of knowledge about the Thessaloniki Book Fair. A trip around the world of Kavafy, a presentation of the facilities regarding the poetry of Constantine Cavafy. A different sightseeing tour by Nana, the creators of the original architectural facilities based on the poetry of Constantine Cavafy which will be hosted in the Stoa of Agios Minas. The so-called 9th Art is particularly honored this year at the TBF. The specially fitted space, at pavilion 13, will host publications of Greek and foreign creators as well as thematic exhibitions of comics, representative of the modern Greek and international scene, while at the same time there will be discussions and workshops addressed to children and adults.

In public and school libraries, around the world, there are daily, new programmes of use of the 9th Art. But what is happening in Greece? Lida Tsene (Public Relations & Educational Programmes responsible at Comicdom Press) coordinates this workshop which aims at recording and discussing how we can incorporate comics into libraries and take advantage, in the most effective way, of this creative type of art. The workshop principally addresses librarians and educators.
