    1. Foreword

Message from the Conference Co Chairs

Welcome to Hong Kong for the First International Conference on Information Technology and Management (ICITM2007).

The conference is organized by the Institute for Systems Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and hosted by the Department of Computing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It features the most recent research results in the concepts and development of information systems, enabling technologies, industrial applications, business management and e–learning. As part of the mission of the Institute of Systems Management is to facilitate the application of information technology to industrial enterprises, case presentation sessions are organized concurrently with the conference to encourage more industrial/business participation. All registered participants of the conference are also encouraged to attend those other sessions for industrial interaction.

On behalf of the editors of the conference proceedings, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the authors for their submissions to the conference. Many of them travel great distance to participate in the conference. The editors are grateful to all reviewers for their efforts in reviewing the many submissions. Thanks also go to the colleagues who take care of all the logistics.

Last but not least we would like to express our gratitude to all of the organizations that support our efforts to bring the conference to fruition. We would like to thank our sponsors, including the K.C. Wong Foundations for providing sponsorships for the conference. We are also grateful to the Zhejiang University, the National Chung Cheng University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for helping to organize this conference.

Message from the Program Co Chairs

Welcome to the First International Conference on Information Technology and Management (ICITM2007) organized by the Institute of Systems Management and hosted by the Department of Computing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

It has been our great pleasure and honour to be part of this successful conference as chairs of the program committee. This 3–day conference not only updates us with the forefront of technology and management, but presents us with the recent progress in several areas such as medical information system, competition intelligence, mobile commerce, e–education, multimedia, animation, finance and taxation in China.

We are very happy to say that a total of 175 papers were received from our fellow researchers and professionals. This contribution came from 20 countries and 50 universities and institutions. A significant proportion of the papers came from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China regions. Only 66 regular papers and 10 poster papers were selected by the reviewers for proceedings publication. In addition, authors with quality papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible inclusions in peer–reviewed post conference publication by Springer.

Besides the invited lectures, this 3–day conference will also include contributed and poster sessions, tour visit and other related social programs.

Finally, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors but most importantly, all these would not have been made possible without your support, and the great efforts of our organizing team.

Thank you and enjoy your stay in Hong Kong.
