Have you noticed how some absorbents are grey in colour, some are white and others are yellow or green? Below we’ve explained what colour to use for different types of spills and when to use them.

GENERAL PURPOSE ABSORBENTS are grey in colour and are also sometimes referred to as Universal. As a general rule of thumb if the spill has happened indoors use a grey product to absorb both oil and water based substances (technically referred to as hydrophilic). Best choice for almost any situation.

OIL ONLY ABSORBENTS are best used outdoors to absorb just oil based spills (petrol, diesel, and solvents) and are technically referred to as hydrophobic. These products are white in colour and also come in a range of shapes and sizes. They are best used outdoors.

HAZCHEM ABSORBENTS CHEMICAL or toxic spills require polypropylene meltblown absorbents. These are yellow in colour and are referred to as Hazchem. Please remember that chemical spills can be extremely hazardous and should not be cleaned up without the correct training or protective equipment. These can be used indoors or out.

Loose absorbents Drive over wall bundsOrganic floor sweep Our Organic floor sweep is manufactured locally from recycled organic cellulose products that would otherwise be burnt or end up in landfills. It absorbs 4 times per kg more liquid than most clay and mineral based absorbents making it more cost effective. Our floor sweep can be composted and does a superior job leaving surfaces dryer and less slippery.

Drive over bund The wall bund is designed to contain and prevent liquids from migrating outside the area of its containment. Used primarily as a wall that has a footprint which is only 14cm wide by 7.5cm high. The wall bund has a half-moon collapsible sponge which is encased in a strong yellow truck tarp vinyl material. This provides a watertight, nonslip surface and a round footprint to walk on or driver over. The wall bund collapses and springs back to its original half-moon shape providing the perfect wall bund for liquid containment.

Magic Monkey absorbent This lightweight dry granular sorbent is safe for people, plants, animals and food processing facilities. Effective on most types of spills including oils, fuels, chemicals, paint, antifreeze bases, bodily fluids, non-hydrofluoric acids and many others. The granular sorbent is sprinkled onto the spill which then turns to a solid. The spill can then be easily swept away with a broom.

Collapsible bunds Our bunds unpack quickly for emergency situations and conveniently stores in small spaces which makes it a great portable bund. The drive through design is ideal for small equipment decon, saddle tank ruptures and transformer storage. Our bunds have no parts to assemble or dismantle making them fast and easy to set up and repack. Collapsible bunds are reusable. Just clean and place in the storage bag for re-use.

Stick down bunding Our stick down bunding has been designed to prevent a spill from migrating into the yard from your shed. It has a bevelled edge on either side and a flat top surface which allows a forklift to move unrestricted up and over the top. It is glued on one side ready for you to stick down.

Neoprene drain sealsSpill Ready Neoprene Drain Seals are black and highlighted with safety yellow tape. They are flexible, durable, non-absorbing and tear resistant. Drain seals can be easily cut to special shapes and sizes if needed. Clean them with soap and water. Drain seals are available in a number of sizes.
