    The incumbent serves as a manager in the Produce Department fully participating inall activities and performs the full range of supervisory duties normally assigned to afirst level supervisor in the agency. Dir ects the duties of the Produce Department.Directs duties associated with the proper merchandising of all fruits and vegetableproducts in the department. Designs and rotates seasonal and promotional areas

    within the department. Coordinates price adjustments with the commissary officer toensure operation with narrow percentage tolerances. Establishes selling prices andinspects processing areas are sanitized and maintained in a neat and orderlycondition. Uses automated tools to produce price changes, prepare price lists, andprepare for inventories. Forecasts orders during peak times to meet customerdemand. Provides administrative and technical supervision to employees that workwithin the Produce Department.

    To qualify for the GS-07 requires 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to theGS-05 level. To qualify for the GS-07 using education, applicants must possess 1 fullyear of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Education musthave equipped applicants fully with the knowledge and ability to perform the work of the position. This would be evidenced by on-the-job training in food retailmanagement or an internship or practicum in food retail management.

    Examples of specialized experience are: knowledge of retail procurement anddistribution methods; principles, procedures, and techniques of retail foodmerchandising and retail food store management; and developments in commercialretail food store items, equipment, and practices. Examples of qualifying experienceinclude: managing a commissary store, supermarket, or similar type of commercialretail food store; managing a department in a retail food store; developing,interpreting, or applying policies, procedures, and operating standards for use in aretail food store; planning, standardizing, or controlling operations in an assignedgroup of commercial retail food stores; providing technical advice on merchandisingand operational matters pertaining to grocery, meats, and produce, as well as frontend operations. In order for Wage System experience to be creditable, theexperience must include at least 12 months as a Wage Leader (WL) or WageSupervisor (WS). Holding a WL position for at least 12 months in a relatedoccupation may qualify a candidate up to the GS-7 level. Holding a WS position for12 months in a 6914 or 7407 occupation may qualify a candidate for up to the GS-11level.
