PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
To familiarize with various approaches to management theory and science and developthe ability to use general management concepts in practical situations in organisations.
Module-1
INTODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT: (8 hours)
Definition of management evolution of management thought-Management, Nature,
Scope and Relationship with other Disciplines Management, Entrepreneurship andLeadership-General and functional areas of Management-Productivity, Effectiveness and
Efficiency-Systems approach to Management-Ethics in management.
Module-2PLANNING AND ORGANISATIONAL OBJECTIVES: (8 hours)
Planning-Organizations mission, purpose, goals and objectives-strategies. Planning
process-planning and Budgeting. Management by objectives-MBO process. Strategies
and Policies-Porters industry analysis and generic competitive strategies. Decision
Making- Decision Making under certainty, uncertainty and risk.
Module-3
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE (8 hours)
Organizing, Organisation structure, Departmentation. Line and staff authority,Empowerment and Decentralisation. Organisation culture and Managing diversity.Entrepreneuring and Re-engineering.
Module-4
COORDINATION AND CONTROL (8 hours)
Coordination-communication, Communication process-Guidelines for improving
communication. Control- system and process of controlling-Control techniques andinformation technology. Productivity, Quality and Total quality management.
Module-5
MOTIVATION AND LEADERSHIP (8 hours)
Motivation-theories of Motivation-Maslow-Herzberg-Four Drive theory, theory ofLearned needs. Motivation and commitment.
Leadership-Theories of leadership-Trait theory-Managerial grid -Contingency theory.
Transactional and Transformational Leader.
