Principal’s Message MANY THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Heartfelt thanks to the community for your messages of condolence and support for Mrs Teppo.
It’s been lovely to see the drawings and tributes the children have made in her memory. We will collate them into
a memento for the family, so any additional offerings are most welcome at the school office.
We are also planning a special assembly in the next week or so, and ideas about dedicating a space in the school
are being discussed – so we will keep the community informed.
PARENT- TEACHER INTERVIEWS
During these last weeks of term we will be holding Parent Teacher Interviews to give parents the chance to meet
one-on-one with their child’s teacher to check progress and raise any concerns. Interviews are generally held in
the classrooms and you will see a range of times available for booking. CLICK HERE TO BOOK

WARRINGAH RD OVERPASS
The new overhead bridge on the corner of Starkey St and Warringah Road is almost complete. Our Year 6
leadership team is invited to the opening this Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to be part of the ‘first official
crossing’.
SIBLING ENROLMENTS 2019
A reminder to those that have siblings starting with us in 2019, enrolments are open and if we can get our sibling
numbers it helps with organising the year ahead.
EASTER BREAK
Our Kinder parents are undertaking the ‘creative engineering challenge’ of constructing an Easter hat for their
child for the traditional Easter Hat Parade on Thursday morning. It’s always such a popular event with ingenious
ideas and amazing creations.
No doubt we will all enjoy the extra long weekend over the Easter break.
Thank you for your support,

Library News The 2018 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun! To complete the
challenge and earn a certificate, students need to read a certain number of
nominated books by 31st August 2018. Students who have completed the
challenge for four years in a row are awarded a Gold certificate.
It is easy to enter the challenge. Students simply log on via the Premier’s
Reading Challenge Website using their school logon and enter each book
they have read on their personal reading log. K-2 students can either read a
book by themselves or have a book read to them. 3-6 students must read the
book themselves but can have the book chosen for them. Click here for an
extensive explanation of the rules.
To make it easier for you, many of the books listed are in our library. Happy
Reading!

Leadership Camp On the 20th to the 21st of March, the Leadership Teams from schools in the Warringah Community of Schools
including: Killarney Heights, Mimosa, Terrey Hills, Arranounbai, Allambie Heights, Belrose, Frenchs Forest and
Kambora went to the Leadership Camp in Narrabeen Sydney Academy of Sport to learn all about working in
groups and decision making. Our school Leadership Team consisted of Oscar and Indie (School Captains),Theo
and Ava (Vice Captains) and Jeremy, Dylan, Felicity and Bianca (Prefects).
The activities that we did were interesting and we learnt a lot. Our first activity was the Welcome to Country. Dave,
an Aboriginal man came and taught us about Welcome to Country. Welcome to Country is a speech you would
do before a presentation to acknowledge the traditional Aboriginal people of the land. We were then told to make
our own acknowledgement to country to share with our school and our school principal.
The activities we did were raft building, high ropes and initiatives. They were all extremely fun and exciting things
to do. They split us into 3 groups and we all did different activities at different times. The groups were mixed up
with lots of other schools so we could meet other people we didn’t know. This really helped with our team skills
because we had to slow things down a bit to see what other people's talents were.
Initiatives was our first activity, there were lots of obstacles that we had to get through while working in groups
with people we didn’t know. Some of the activities were really hard, like leading someone through a maze with
the person in the maze’s eyes closed. This required a lot of trust in the person who was leading you.
The next activity was Raft Building, this was extremely fun and exciting. This was challenging our teamwork as we
all had to agree on one design and carry out building that
design. It was also difficult to make the raft while making sure
you didn’t drop any of the equipment on anyone’s toes (this
would hurt a lot!). When we finally got everything together,
it was difficult because everyone was running around like
mad people! When we finally got the raft in the water it was
crazy, people were splashing everywhere and trying to get to
the other side first! Our team actually won the race, and that
was very fun!
The following day we all did High Ropes. High ropes is like
Tree-Tops (lots of ropes really high up that you walk along)
it was very fun and it was definitely a favourite activity for lots
of people. There was a small zip-line coming off the ropes
that we got to jump off that was scary but very exciting!
When we were not outside, we were either in our cabins or working on our school project. Our school project was
to find a problem in our school and try to make a plan to fix it! In the end our leadership team decided to put
mesh over all the gutters. We thought this would be a great idea, as when people accidentally kick balls on the
roofs in the school it would roll down to the edge of the roof but then get stuck in the gutter. This would not
happen if we would put mesh over the gutters as the ball would just roll off. The other reason we want put mesh
over the gutters is sometimes the gutters get full with leaves and this causes the gutters to overflow and the
classrooms to leak.
Overall the whole camp was a very exciting experience and the whole leadership team would absolutely love to
go again!!!

Happy Days Village Fundraising Pencil in Thursday the 12th April, where the Year 6 leadership team will be running
a Fundraiser for Happy Days Cambodian Village School. The School and the wider
community hope to raise enough money, to fund the building of an open
classroom, which can accommodate the learning of up to 200 students from the
village at the one time. The structure is similar size to the Gunyah and is a necessary
requirement to aid the students and the teachers due to the school growing from
200 to 500 students within the past 12 months. This growth is testament to
the funding Forestville Primary School and other local schools have contributed,
which goes a long way in providing students a chance at an education. A chance
that would not be provided without funding and initiatives such as these.
It is a great initiative that the leadership group have taken on and it is a great way
to support them, as well as the Happy Days Cambodian Village School.
Well Done – Ride to School day stats Trees celebrate!
Last Friday for National Ride2school Day 582 of you, or 91% of our school, either walked, rode, scootered or took
public transportation to school - and the trees had a party with the reduction of carbon in the air! What an
outstanding result considering the weather forecast. We hope that everyone had a bit more fun than usual chatting
with family members and friends while making your way to school. If smiles and good spirits were the measure,
the day was a success - it was so good to see so many families involved! Remember that the long term goal is to
try to make this sort of behaviour habit. Happy safe riding, scooting, skating, walking! Below are the results.

Book Covering We need parents to help cover classroom readers. If you have time to cover some
books, please see our office staff, as soon as possible, as we would like students
to have these new resources to use in classrooms.
