In case of School ClosureWe are very aware of the current medical advice that is being issued on a daily basis to schools throughout the country and, as a result, have created a little pack of work and activities to do in case we have to close the school.

If the school must close, we will inform you as soon as we can and will be in contact with the date that we can reopen when we know it. We want to make sure that your child can still learn and can use this time away from school productively.

In this pack you will find: List of websites and logins that your child may need to access work A list of topic based projects your child could complete while school is closed Information on how to contact your child’s class teacher and guidance on when they

will be responding to this contact A workbook for your child to complete the work in

Suggested Work While School is ClosedReadingWe would recommend that your child reads every day, whether it is their school reading book, a book for pleasure, a comic, a magazine, the sports pages or cooking recipes.

Writing It would be useful if your child was able to practise their spellings. Lists for these are available on your class page and teachers will be updating them every weekPurple Mash Activities will be set on school days to support your child with their grammar.Your child may wish to include writing in one of the projects (Mentioned below)

MathematicsFor years 3, 4 and 5, we will be setting daily activities on Purple Mash for your child to complete. Each child has a login (attached later) and should follow the instructions on the attached sheet to find their work. Year 6 children will have a set of questions that are similar to the SATs tests they will be sitting.

If you are struggling to access the internet, a pack of mathematics and English resources are available to collect from the school office.

TopicsThis pack has been put together to support you and your child. We have tried to make the activities as fun as possible and want you to do them in the way that suits your child in the most productive way. They could make posters, record videos, create comic books or even write songs!

Care for the Community

At Queens C of E we recognise how we are each important in our community. Some of us have gifts of hands to help, some of us have gifts of feet to carry things or others, some of us have gifts of ears to listen and some of us have gifts of mouths to smile.

One thing you could do is a project that shows a way in which you have supported your community. You can choose what your project is about so long as it celebrates Love in Action, the idea of putting someone else’s’ needs above your own.

You may want to base your project about one of these ideas:1. Supporting someone with their shopping/things they need2. Bringing smiles to people by entertaining them3. Supporting a friend who is feeling upset or anxious4. Helping a friend who is struggling with their homework5. Tidying your local area (make sure you are doing this in a safe way with protection!)6. Donating to a local charity (e.g. Foodbank)

Here are some useful websites with ideas:https://kidactivities.net/community-service-ideas-for-kids-all-ages/https://www.scholastic.com/parents/family-life/parent-child/10-fun-community-giving-ideas.htmlhttps://kidshealth.org/en/parents/volunteer.html

Room for Growth Project!

Each child in the school will be receiving some sunflower seeds. We would love for you to try and grow the plants and see how the seeds change as they germinate and begin to grow. Sunflowers are great for attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden!

We are going to have a competition to see who can grow the largest sunflower! You will need to provide evidence of the plant (a photo with you standing next to it would be perfect) and the winners will get a prize. If your sunflower is in a pot, you are welcome to bring it back to school and plant it in our garden so we can celebrate the positive growth that has come out of the current situation.

We are also going to have a competition for the best project created about the sunflower. You can choose to enter this or not to, it is not compulsory but there are some prizes available.

Your project can be about anything to do with the sunflower that you want. Here are some ideas for projects:

1. A diary of how the Sunflower grew over time. This could be pictures and text, a video diary or any other way that you can think of recording it.

2. How sunflowers are used. You could create a project explaining how sunflowers, and sunflower seeds, are used around the world.

3. A maths and science project looking at how much the plant has grown each day, how much water it gets, whether you feed it anything special or any other variables that you change.

4. Create a character for your sunflower and turn it into a story or a comic book.

5. Any other idea that you have!

The projects can be completed on paper, using computers, making songs or dances or in any other way that you can imagine! The choice is yours!

Environmental Project

We are all aware of how important our Environment is and why we should be protecting it. One thing that you could do is to produce a project about the environment. You can choose what your project is about, as long as it is based around environmental awareness and making positive changes to the world around us.

You may want to base your project on some of these ideas:1. Rubbish and Recycling in our community2. Climate Change- Small Steps that can make a Big Difference3. Loss of habitat- bees, birds and other UK animals that are losing their natural

environments4. Renewable Energy- how changing to these can help the world

Below are some websites that may be able to help you with your project.

https://www.earthrestorationservice.org/https://www.recycle-more.co.uk/school/environmental-projects-ideashttps://www.wwf.org.uk/get-involved/schools/school-campaigns/shaping-our-future You can present your projects in any way that you choose: a poster, a computer-made presentation, a talk or even a song! The choice is yours.

Olympic Project

2020 is an Olympic year. Every 4 years the world comes together to celebrate sports and to find out who is the fastest, who can jump the highest, throw the furthest and show more determination than their rivals.

Some examples of possible projects:

1. Focus on one sport and learn to play it, understanding the rules and tactics.

2. Research the history of the modern Olympic Games. When did they start? Where did they come from? How many events were there? Have they changed much? How many countries took part in the first one, how many are planning to take part in Tokyo?

3. Research Japan and Tokyo. Learn about the country and culture. Eat some Japanese food, learn how to say something in Japanese, learn some Japanese dances etc. you could make a poster, design a comic set in Japan.

4. Learn about Manga-a traditional Japanese comic book. These stories are fantastic and have some amazing illustrations to accompany them.
