School Closure Daily Learning Plan: Reception Good Morning Everyone I hope you are enjoying completing activities about being at the beach. It’s making me feel summery – and looking forward to some drier weather. Have you managed to play in some sand yet? I’ve cleaned out our sand tray in school so it is ready for new sand in September. See if you can do another one of the beach activities today. In phonics, I am asking your parents to do a spelling test with you to see how many of the tricky words you can write by yourself without looking. Don’t worry if you can’t write them by yourself, they will all be on the wall in Year 1. However, the more you can write by yourself, the better your writing will be for Mrs Trattos. Perhaps that’s something you can learn over the summer holiday. Take care and count carefully in the maths I Spy activity today. Don’t let it trick you out! Have a great day. School Closure Daily Learning Plan: Reception

Good Morning Everyone

I hope you are enjoying completing activities about being at the beach.

Using your child’s writing book or a piece of paper, say one of the tricky words (from the tricky word book) and ask your child to write it by themselves without looking. Do between 5 or 10 at a time until you have checked all words from Phase 2, Phase 3 & Phase 4. You don’t have to do all today!

Over the summer holidays, spend some time helping your child learn to read and write the words they cannot read or spell independently. This will help prepare them in preparation for Year 1.

Literacy Writing – At The Beach

If you have access to a printer, print out the pages above. I have included 3 writing tasks that your child can complete 1 page at a time. Each page has sample words at the top and two pictures for the children to write about. Don’t forget to use finger spaces, phoneme fingers and a full stop.If you would like to do further writing practice over the holiday, you could find some pictures of a variety of scenes to write about or stories to retell over the holiday.

Maths I Spy At The Beach Addition

This activity is just like the ones we’ve done over the past few weeks. It can be quite tricky, but a good challenge. Ask your child to cross out each object in different colours to help ensure they have counted each object. To complete the addition sum afterwards, your child can either use counters, raisins, grapes, sweets or a number line.

Understanding the World

At the Beach in SummerOver the past few weeks, we have been learning about creatures that live in the sea. This week we are going to be thinking about the fun we can have when visiting the seaside. These activities can be completed through the week and at the start of the summer holiday. I’ve added more than one week’s worth of work.

Page 3: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com  · Web viewUsing your child’s writing book or a piece of paper, say one of the tricky words (from the tricky word book) and ask your child

My visit to the beachIf you and/or your child has been to the beach, spend some time looking at pictures and videos of your visit. Talk about how old you were, who you went with and what you did. Following this, perhaps draw a picture and write a few sentences to recall what you did – news diary activity. If you can, print out a variety of photographs of your child at the beach and make a collage poster as a record.

Staying Safe in the SunTalk about the importance of keeping safe in the sun and what we must do. Watch the video of Hacker the Dog and share the ideas below: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/sun-safety-for-kidsSpend some time packing a bag with all the items your child would need to stay safe in the sun. If you have access to a printer, your child could cut and stick the pictures on the document above to pack their own bag for things they would need to be safe in the sun. Whenever your child goes outside in the sun, ensure they can tell you how they can keep safe.Make a poster to show other people how to be safe in the sun.

Seaside Spot the DifferenceIf you have access to a printer, print out the ‘spot the difference’ page above.

Seaside ColouringsIf you have access to a printer, print out the colouring pages whenever your child needs some quiet time. Perhaps put on the mindfulness music from the Autumn 1 video page.

Make a Beach SceneIf you have access to a printer, use the pages above ‘At the Beach Picture Background’ & ‘At the Beach Picture Cut Outs’ to make your own beach scene. If you do not have access to a printer, ask your child to draw and colour their own picture. Can they add a sandcastle, people swimming in the sea, a beach umbrella etc.

Let’s pretend – Be at the BeachOn a hot and sunny day, set the garden or living room up as a beach and let your child pretend they are at the beach. Make, pack and have a picnic on a blanket, play with water, set up the sprinkler hose outside and let your child run through it, play in a paddling pool, play with sand and let your child feel the sand under their feet (especially if you don’t get the chance to go to the beach) and have ice creams.

Sand PlayLet your child play with sand in a sand tray. If you don’t have a sand tray, a washing up bowl, variety of plastic pots, spoons and bag of sand is a relatively cheap way of letting your child experience building sandcastles. Talk about the need for adding water to sand to help it stick.

Sand ArtDraw outlines of a variety of pictures. Make them large with little details at first. Fill the space with glue. Place the paper into a tray and then drop sand over the top. Shake off any

excess sand into the tray so it can be used again. You might want to let your child get creative by drawing with glue and then add sand as above to see what they have created.

Make a flagLook at a variety of flags or countries of interest. Talk about the patterns and colours on these flags. Notice that sandcastles usually have a flag on the top. Spend some time making flags of all sizes and add sticks. You can find lots of colouring pages below if your child does not want to attempt drawing them for themselves. If it is a simple design, a ruler can be used easily. We used them earlier in the year. Now make your own sandcastle and add your flag to the top. http://www.supercoloring.com/coloring-pages/countries-cultures/flags-of-the-worldReception Summer Activity BookletIf you have access to a printer, print out and staple this booklet above and encourage your child to complete it a little at a time. This could be used on a long car journey or family meal or a rainy day etc.

Make Ice CreamSpend some time having fun making your own ice cream. An easy experiment that the whole family can try is by using milk, vanilla, zip plastic bag, ice and salt. No special ice cream maker needed. Just be careful not to let the plastic bag split as you will have salty ice cream. Once you try a simple vanilla option, try to add fruits or chocolate drops etc. This experiment is good for children to see how materials change.

Make Ice LolliesIf you have a set of lolly moulds, spend some time experimenting to make different ice lollies. Talk about the changes that happen as the liquid freezes. Have fun making them as healthy as you can by using fruit or yoghurt or a try a treat by using lemonade.

Keep a summer holiday diarySelect a new scrap book and write a sentence or two about what you have done. Draw or

add a photograph of your experiences. If you go somewhere that has a flier, perhaps add that too. Perhaps add some of the art work that your child makes too. This will become a lovely keepsake for you and your child to share.
