Today’s key learning focus: Mythical Beasts

Today we’re going to work on our sentences and adding extra detail. We’re going to look at how we can describe three parts of the unicorn in more detail for example its coat, mane and horn.

Your first task: colour mixing with compound adjectives.A compound adjective is two adjectives joined together with a hyphen e.g. sandy-brown. Your task is to create some of your own compound adjectives using colours from the table below. This will help you to create some vivid colour descriptions. Use one word from the left hand column with a word from the right hand column. Try out different combinations and think about which ones sound best. I tried a couple: burnt-orange, cloudy-white

Your second task is to add details with a simile. A ‘mane’ is a word used to describe the long hair at the top of an animal’s neck. Horses, unicorns, giraffes and some monkeys have manes. Let’s think about other unicorns and what their manes could look like. Can you add any more ideas? Add more arrows if you need to. You could make your own unicorn in the blue circle and add some ideas there too.

Today’s key learning focus: Festivals Religious festivals often start with an old story. Watch the story of how the Guru started the Khalsa over 300 year ago here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mx6vsThe story is told using shadow puppets. The tradition of using shadow puppets goes back to long before there were videos and TVs, but it is still fun today. Use a black felt pen or a pencil to draw two scenes from the story here, in shadow puppet style. One scene should be called ‘danger’ and the other ‘commitment’.
