Aims/Purpose

The purpose of this questionnaire is to help me gain primary research and understand what my target audience would like

to appear in my new dance music magazine. From the questionnaire i will have a better understanding of my

magazine will include, where i will be selling it and other important information.

Methods and techniques

To gain my research i created a questionnaire, i decided to do this because i can ask a variety of questions with more than one options for the answers. This will also provide me with quantitive

data. In my questionnaire i had 14 questions which were all related to my magazine and from this i asked my target audience

to provide me with information.

After creating my questionnaire i decided to ask 5 people within my target audience which would give me the results about what

they would like in my magazine.

Results Question 1- What is your age ?

I would like to aim my magazine at 16-21 year olds. My results show that i have asked my target audience and this is because i would then be able to get the data i needed for the rest of the

questions.

Question 2 - What is your gender?

From these results i found that 60% of the people i asked were female and 40% were male. i asked more females than males however i know that there is a mixed gender in my target audience which is useful when it comes to adding features as i know i have to aim it at both male

and female readers.

Question 3 - What is your employment status?

I asked this question because this would then tell me what status there are and what income they have. From these results it

shows that 80% of my target audience are students this means that they do not have a steady income to be paying out lots of

money on a magazine, however based on their parents they may have a high disposable income to be giving an allowance to their children. This is something i need to consider when pricing my

magazine.

Question 4 - What are you hobbies/interests?

I then asked what there hobbies are because i wanted to know what they are interested in. This is useful for when it comes to making my magazine because it will give me an idea of different adverts i could include. 2 out of the 5 people I asked said their hobbies include shopping, whilst the others said their hobbies include

sports activities, clubbing, and dancing.

Question 5- How often do you purchase magazines?

I wanted to know how often they purchase magazines because it will be useful to know for when I decided how often my magazine will be released and if it would suit in

with them. 2 out of the 5 people I asked said they buy their magazines weekly so this could be something to

consider for my magazine.

Question 6- If you purchase music magazines what ones do you buy?

I asked this question because I wanted to know if there was any competition in my genre of music magazine. When I

asked this question to my target audience they all said that they do not purchase any music magazines, this means that there is a gap in the market for my dance music magazine and could therefore become a regularly magazine that they

buy.

Question 7- How much do you usually pay for your magazines?

I wanted to know how much my target audience usually spend on their magazines because this will help me when it comes to pricing my magazine. From these results I have found that over half of the people I asked usually spend

£3.00 or more on their magazines which could suggest that they have a high disposable income from their own money

or their parents.

Question 8- Where do you usually purchase your magazines?

I asked this question because I wanted to know where my target audience get their magazines so it will help me when it comes to

finding out where my magazine is going to be available. From these results I have found that my target audience often buy their

magazines from newsagents and supermarkets this means that my magazine will be available in those places.

Question 9- How often would you like the dance magazine to be released?

I asked this question because I wanted to know what my target audience wanted, I got a mixed sat of results from my audience on

this question 2 out of 5 said they would like it to be released weekly and 2 said they would like it monthly however only one said they would like it fortnightly. This is an issue that I would

need to address.

Question 10- Would you be willing to pay £2.00 for my dance magazine?

I wanted to know my audience’s view on the price of the magazine first before I go ahead with it. I decided that £2.00

would be a reasonable price. 100% of my target audience said that they would be willing to pay this which is good because I can now be assured that my target audience can afford this.

Question 11- What gifts/offers would you like to see in my dance magazine?

I asked this because I wanted to know if my target audience would be interested in the free gifts and offers that I had already

come up with. I decided to make this question more open allowing them to select as many options as they wanted, from these results I found that my target audience was interested in

every option and this means that i will be able to include these in my magazine as its what they would like to see.

Question 12- What colour schemes do you think will work best for my dance magazine?

From these results I found that 100% of my target audience wanted my magazine do have the colour scheme of black and

bright colours. I am pleased that they chose this because I think it will work really well with the black background suiting the part atmosphere and the bright colours suiting the party

lights.

Question 13- What artists do you prefer from the dance genre?

I asked this question because I wanted to know who are the main artists that the people in my target audience like, I left this question open because I wanted my audience to show

more than one artist that they like. I got a mixed set of results from this question so I will use a variety of these artists in my

magazine.

Question 14- What features would you like to see in my dance magazine?

I left this question open so my audience had the opportunity to choose more than one answer. From theses results I found that my audience would like to see competitions in my magazine so

I will be sure to include them as well as some of the other features that they liked.

Conclusion

After looking at my results I have come to some conclusions about my magazine. Firstly I will include adverts that relate to their hobbies which will be a bonus for my readers when they see an advert that connects to other hobbies that they have. I have also decided that my magazine will be released fortnightly because when I asked my target audience when they would like it to be released I had a mixed range of answers, some wanted it weekly and others monthly, so by releasing it on a fortnightly basis will be suitable for all of my target audience. I have also decided that I am going to price my magazine at £2.00. After looking at my results it shows that 3 out of the 5 people spend £3.00+ on their magazines and the other 2 spend £1.50-£2.00 on their magazines. However when I asked them would they be willing to pay £2.00 for the magazine all of my target audience said they would, so I think this is a suitable price for everyone. I will also include a range of free gifts and offers because all of my target audience were interested in at least 1 of the options when I asked them. I am also going to have a black and bright colours theme as all of my target audience agreed this would work best. i have also decided to include artists that my target audience selected in the questionnaire and do the same with the features. This questionnaire has allowed me to come to some important decisions for when I create my magazine and it has been good to find out what my target audience wants to see in my magazine and I think from this I am going to be able to create a magazine that my target audience will love.
