    Present Simple Form :

    Affirmative : Subject + infinitive

    I play basketball.

    Negative : Subject + dont / doesnt + infinitive I dont play tennis. He doesnt play tennis. Questions : Do / Does + subject + infinitive ?

    What do you play? Spelling : 3rd person singular

    * In affirmative sentences , for 3rd person singular ( he/she/it) we add s.

    * For most verbs we add ing ,e.g. eating / playing/going

    We double the final consonant , e.g. shop --- shopping / run --- running

    FORM

    * Affirmative ( regular verbs ) : Subject + verb with ed

    She visited her aunt.

    * Affirmative ( irregular verbs ) : Subject + irregular past form

    * Questions : Did + subject + infinitive

    Spelling: regular verbs

    * In affirmative sentences, for most regular verbs we add ed

    Grammar Past continuous tense

    1. Form :

    Affirmative: subject + was / were + -ing form

    He was doing his homework.

    Negative : subject + wasnt / werent + -ing form

    He wasnt watching TV.

    Question: Was / Were + subject + -ing form ?

    Was he watching TV?

    What was he doing?

    2. Use : Talking about actions that were in progress at a specific time in the past:

    I was having lunch at 2 oclock yesterday.

    Past simple or past continuous

    - We often use the past continuous with the past simple. We use the past continuous to talk

    about a longer action and the past simple with a shorter action that interrupts the longer

    action.

    While / As ---- longer action ( past continuous ) ------ shorter action ( past simple )

    While I was watching TV, the lights went out.

    The lights went out while I was watching TV.

    When ---- shorter action ( past simple ) --------- longer action ( past continuous )

    When it rained, we were playing football.

    Spelling In words of one syllable which contain a short vowel in the middle, we double the last

    Wys to express future time will + infintive / be going to + infinitive

    "be going to" is used for things we are planning to do or that we expect to happen.

    "will" is used for things we are sure will happen.

    - They are going to build a canal. ( They are planning to build it.)

    - It will link the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. ( we are sure it will link the two oceans.)

    * What are you going to do at the weekend?

    I'm goping to play basketball.

    Teacher : I'm going to give you some homework. Will you do it?

    Spelling Dropping magic e before adding suffix beginning with a vowel

    In words which end with a magic 'e' ( words which end with a long vowel + consonant + e )

    Present perfect and past simple

    We use the present perfect: to describe an event in the past without a definite time

    Someone has broken my camera.

    We use the past simple to describe finished vents in the past, when we think about a

    definite time.

    Someone broke my camera yesterday.

    B: Yes, I have.

    A: When did you see it?

    B: I saw it last month.

    Spelling

    Sometimes we can make a verb into a noun by adding the suffix ment.
