Built around a Norman mill tower, the history of The Priest House can be traced back for almost 1000 years. In fact, the original water wheels that once occupied the site were mentioned in the Domesday

Book and valued at a full ‘Ten Shillings and a Penny’. Today, the charm of the setting remains as strong as ever. However these days you can also expect a few more contemporary comforts.

At The Priest House, we want you to feel absolutely at ease. So, while we look after your bags, take a few moments to make yourself at home. Kick off your shoes, curl up with a favourite book, soak up the cosy atmosphere

and sample the house’s signature afternoon tea. A ‘must-try’ on any visit, this includes our own moist fruit cake and, if you are feeling a little indulgent, a generous serving of clotted cream. It can prove very hard to resist.

DINING AT THE PRIEST HOUSE IS A FEAST FOR ALL THE SENSES.

EACH TEMPTING DISH IS LOVINGLY PREPARED, BEAUTIFULLY

PRESENTED AND, MUCH OF THE TIME, LOCALLY SOURCED. WHEN

IT COMES TO WINE, OUR LIST BLENDS OLD WORLD CLASSICS

WITH INTRIGUING NEW WORLD ARRIVALS.

Our menus combine fresh seasonal flavours with regional ingredients, updated by our head chef on a regular basis to make the most of the freshest produce available. If you get the chance, be sure to sample Derbyshire lamb, a speciality of the local farm.

Of course, dining extends well beyond the à la carte menu. In the summer, step outside and dine al fresco, overlooking the river. For a light lunch or early evening drink, head to the Brasserie. To round off a weekend visit, make sure you stay for our traditional Sunday roast.

Alternatively, try our range of country pursuits including clay pigeon shooting, falconry and off-road racing. Keen anglers can even catch dinner in the River Trent to enjoy later in the restaurant – cooked and seasoned by our chef. If you are lucky you may spot our friendly local heron and wild mink.

As a unique country retreat, every one of our 42 bedrooms has its own character. There are romantic suites, family rooms and stylish executive rooms. While each is different, they all share some more contemporary comforts including flat screen TVs, CD and DVD players and our own indulgent Hand Picked toiletries. After a day exploring the Derbyshire countryside, you can always unwind with a movie from our DVD library.

To accompany your film, choose something special from our à la carte menu or try a classic dish from the ‘comfort food’ menu featuring home-made cookies, hake and chips with our home-made ketchup and, in the summer, balsamic ice-cream and strawberries.

Unwinding is one of those pastimes we do very well at The Priest House. Take a quiet stroll along the River Trent and keep your eyes open for otters, now returning to the local area. To make your walk a little more comfortable, borrow a pair of our Wellington boots. You could simply enjoy a picnic on the riverbank, just outside the house.

If you prefer to venture a little further, then Chatsworth House, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Twycross Zoo, Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit, Alton Towers and many other popular, exciting attractions are all a short drive away.
