PRETORIA SKYDIVING CLUB TANDEM JUMP INFO 1

Welcome to the Pretoria Skydiving Club. Our goal is to provide you with an exhilarating experience that you will never forget!! Inorder to accomplish that goal, we request that you familirise yourself with the below information. The sky is not the limit, it is our

    play ground!!

What is tandem jumping?Tandem jumping is a perfect introduction to real skydiving without you having to deal with the actual deployment of theparachute. A Tandem jump allows you the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of Freefall, while being harnessed to one of our highlyskilled instructors (tandem masters). You exit the aircraft at 11000 feet, securely strapped to your tandem master who willcontrol the free fall element of your skydive. You will have an approximate 40 second freefall where after the tandem master willopen your parachute at around 5000 feet. The parachute is made for two. We are using the latest equipment technology in the form of a duel harness, and you are in thecapable hands of some of the best experienced skydivers. A Tandem Skydive makes a great gift for an adventurous friend orrelative. Our skilled camera men can video your total experience, from you being fitted with the harness, your briefing, the plain ride, theexit and freefall (he exits with you and flies a few metres in front of you) and then your landing. You will receive a DVD editedwith great music and your ride of a lifetime! This way you can show your friends and family that YOU DID IT!!!

The procedure:Please arrive at least one hourprior to your allocated tandem jump time, so that you can complete our indemnity form and reportat manifest. You will be given a 15 minute briefing on what to expect. The briefing covers the basics of freefall body position andwhat you should do to ensure that you get the most fun possible from your jump. You'll be fitted with a jumpsuit and harness. As soon as it is time, you'll board the aircraft for a picturesque 25 minute ride to 11 000 feet above ground level. On the way upyou will enjoy the view around Pretoria.

Just prior to arrival at altitude (11000 feet) your Tandem Instructor will verify that everything is ready for the jump with the 4attachment points securing you to his equipment (each upper attachment is capable of holding 5000 lbs.). He will ask you if youare "ready to skydive?" He will move you to the aircraft door and you will exit!

The next 30 - 40 seconds will be an extraordinary rush of adrenaline. The excitement of freefalling above the earth at up to 200kilometers an hour is a feeling that cannot be put into words. The instructor pulls the rip-cord to deploy the parachute at 5 000

feet. During the 5-7 minutes it takes to reach the ground your instructor can provide either a gentle ride to the ground or a morethrilling roller coaster experience demonstrating spins and stalls as he skillfully takes you to the landing area.

Please note that we can not guarantee that you will jump at the allocated time as there are certain factors that we can not control(like wind, airport traffic, etc.) to consider. We therefore request that you allocate between 2 to 5 hours to complete the jump.

What kind of plane is used?We have different aircraft that we use depending on the work load of the day.

EquipmentTandem equipment has a few differences from the normal sport skydiving rigs. All tandem skydiving systems use a drogueparachute, which is deployed shortly after leaving the plane in order to slow the freefall speed of two people down to that of asingle skydiver. This is necessary for proper parachute deployment, lengthening the duration of the skydive, and allowing theskydivers to fall at the same speed as videographers. Tandem skydiving systems also use larger main parachutes (400 square

feet and larger) to support the extra weight of two passengers.

Instructor certificationTandem instructors are required to pass an instructor certification course for the system they jump before skydiving withstudents. PASA (Parachute Association of South Africa) requires each potential instructor to have over five hundred individualskydives and three years of skydiving experience. Individual manufacturers' certification courses usually have additionalrequirements.

Where and when do jumps take place? We jump at Wonderboom Airport, North of Pretoria. We operate most weekends, and most Public Holidays. We normally start at09:00 on Saturdays, and Sundays at 10:00, with both days ending at sunset. We can also operate on Wednesdays, but, thatmust be arranged well in advance. For obvious safety reasons our landing area is located a safe distance away from airporttraffic, in front of our club house.

Can I skydive if I am disabled?Disability is not necessarily a barrier. Tandem skydiving has made it possible for many people to participate, who wouldotherwise be unsuitable for solo parachute training. It is worth noting that the final responsibility, and therefore the final decisionas to a person's suitability, rests with the Tandem Master.

I wear spectacles / contact lenses. Will this be a problem?
