region and local community as well as in academia, the President must have proven experience in developing partnerships and connections that benefit the institution’s goal to increase and extend its visibility and its reputation as a high-quality four-year state college. The executive officer also will have responsibilities in developing and sustaining relationships with foundations, corporations, alumni and friends to advance the college’s fundraising efforts.

One of the top priorities for the next President will be the improvement of the college’s recruitment, retention and graduation rate. As an access institution, Macon State provides academic support programs for students entering at every level of academic ability and experience.

The next President of Macon State College must have an earned doctorate, preferably a Ph.D., or appropriate terminal degree. Extensive academic experience is required.

Other qualifications include:• Foster a vibrant and empowered

community through a proven leadership style that evokes trust, welcomes collaboration, reflects

confident decision making, and effectively engages the talents and experiences of the administration and faculty

• Recruit, develop and lead faculty, staff and administration effectively

• Oversee a sound budgetary and fiscal planning process that sustains and enhances the college’s long-term financial strength and utilizes the institution’s resources to their fullest

• Work effectively with the Board of Regents and other state agencies and organizations in advocating the needs and plans of the college

About Macon State College

Established in 1968 as a two-year college, Macon State College is the largest four-year state institution serving middle Georgia. With two campuses – Macon and Warner Robins – and an off-site educational center on Robins Air Force Base, the college has 6,232 students enrolled in 18 professionally oriented bachelor’s degrees. Associate

degrees and certificate programs in business areas also are available.

Academic programs focus on the economic development needs of the community and are designed to enhance the educational, economic, and cultural lives of Central Georgians. The majority of students remain in the region after graduation, providing needed knowledge and skills for the area’s economic development growth.

The Campuses

The 419-acre Macon Campus is surrounded by the Waddell Barnes Botanical Gardens and a lake in the southeast area of Macon, only an hour south of Atlanta. The well-maintained campus features superb facilities equipped with the finest in teaching and

is almost 230,000. A popular tourist destination, Macon is

known for its beautiful homes and cultural events and attractions. Each spring, when the city’s 300,000 Yoshino Cherry Trees bloom, thousands of visitors travel to Macon for the International Cherry Blossom

Festival, a 10-day event of family activities and cultural arts. Other notable attractions include the Ocmulgee National Monument & Indian Mounds, the Tubman African American Museum, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences.

The cultural arts are strongly supported by the community, with five performing arts theatres, the most prominent being the historic 1,000-seat Grand Opera House, which offers Broadway shows and concerts and is home to the Macon Symphony and the Macon Youth Orchestra. The area’s health care facilities and offerings are among the best in the state.

Warner Robins, the 9th largest city in Georgia, offers a blend of bustling city life, Southern hospitality and a touch of laid-back rural charm. Warner Robins is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, with an estimated 50,000 residents. Located off I-75, just 15 miles south of Macon State’s main campus, Warner Robins is home to Robins Air Force Base, Georgia’s largest single industry with 20,000 military and civilian personnel and a $600 million payroll. The area has more than 1,000 retail businesses,

learning technology. From its earliest days, Macon State

has recognized the vital relationship that exists between Robins Air Force Base and the Central Georgia economy. In 1970, the college began offering programs at the University System of Georgia’s Robins Resident Center established on the base for the educational needs of military personnel, families and base workers. The city of Warner Robins later donated 72 acres to Macon State for a permanent campus, located near the main gate of Robins Air Force Base. The base and the college have collaborated on a co-op program that directly prepares students for specific jobs at the base.

• Macon State College will continue to increase enrollment capacity by actively recruiting and subsequently promoting the success of students of all educational and economic backgrounds.

• Macon State College will increase capacity by offering more online courses.

• Macon State College will build strength through educational and applied research partnerships with business and government in order to further the knowledge base and economic development of Central Georgia.

• Macon State College will strengthen its educational partnerships with other regional institutions and agencies.
