School has started and Hurri- cane season is in full swing. I hope this newsletter finds everyone safe and sound from Harvey’s wrath. As I’m writing this there’s a storm brewing in the gulf that looks like it’s going to dump 20+ inches of rain in the greater Houston area. This is a great reminder for all of us to pre- pare in advance for these types of situations. I’m sure many of you have sat through one or two safety meet- ings. This is when all of that prepara- tion will pay off. If you are prepared you won’t panic and it’s less likely you will find yourself in some type of des- perate situation. The same can be said about prepara- tion in our professional lives as well. The better prepared and educated we are the better off we will be when at- tending a meeting, performing daily tasks and being a better designer and engineer. Whether you have are a young designer, EIT, CPD, PE or one of the various certifications that are required throughout our industry, go- ing back and expanding your knowl- edge base is paramount to being suc- cessful.
