I do find however that no matter where I travel in the world, Melbourne is the best place in the world to live. Take a moment to look around today. Breathe in our fresh air. Look at how clean our streets are. We have some of the best hospitals & medical treatment in the world. We have fantastic schools & universities rated as the top in the world. Yes, we can always do better but truly we need to be very thankful for all we that we do have. In Australia however one thing that we should not be proud of is that we are the only Developed Country in the world to have people, including many children, suffering from the eye disease, Trachoma. Today you will see attached an invitation to our upcoming "Foundation Dinner” on Tuesday, 10 April. This dinner will raise money for Rotary International Foundation….OUR Charity that supports this vital work. At the same time raising awareness about Trachoma as we hear from Key Note speaker, Lien Trinh, who is Manager for the “End Trachoma 2020” campaign. A campaign Rotary International President Ian Riseley has bought awareness to the World through Rotary. A fellow Australian finding it incredible to think that with all the money, top medical facilities & caring people with people we have in Australia, people are still suffering in our beautiful Country. To find out more, especially this week as there are broadcasts all week from Ian Riseley & many Professionals talking about what needs to be done to eradicate this disease & help our own people. Invite Friends & Business Colleagues. They also probably have no idea about this disease & how Rotary help these causes. This is a Cluster Event however Rotary Club of Essendon will be hosting. As we celebrate the long history of this Club, leading the way again & as we mark 30 years this year since our own Royce Abbey was RI President, may we ALL get behind our current Australian RI President, Ian Riseley, a school boy from Essendon who has always been passionate about Polio eradication as he remembers a fellow student suffering from Polio & not

being able to attend school with his friends…yes here in Essendon! Now that young Essendon School boy is leading the way for all Rotarians around the world to “Make A Difference”, especially for our own people. Together we can End Trachoma…..but we NEED YOU!! And finally some words from the famous Eye Surgeon Fred Hollows who helped thousands in Australia & around the world to be able to see: "Every eye is an eye, when you're doing the surgery there that is just as important as if you were doing eye surgery on the prime minster or the king" "To my mind, having a care and concern for others is the highest of the human qualities"

See many of you at Rotary next week I hope.

Kind Regards President Jenny

Speaker for the day was our very own member Steven Wojnarowski affectionately known as “Big W” due to the fact that he is

7ft tall (or at least looks to me as if he is!)

Steven presented some interesting facts of the recent census, titled “Who are you” he said there are 5.9M people in Victoria,

510K in Tasmania, 1.6m in South Australia, 2.5m in Western Australia, 229k in NT, 4.7m in QLD, 7.5m in NSW and approx. 400K

in Canberra.

He said the highest population growth was in Victoria 10.7%, WA 10.5% and ACT 11.2% (Editor’s note: ACT are we surprised!!)

Steven showed the growth in population in Melbourne as compared to Sydney from 1991 which showed that Sydney had

grown faster than Melbourne population wise.

He also showed interesting figures of the ageing population in Australia from 1991 to date as well as the states where most of

the migrants settle, 28% in Victoria, 28% in NSW, 26% ACT, 32% WA.

He also showed a slide indicating the areas where the migrants from the various countries settle in Victoria as well as a slide

with the various types of families as well as single person households.

Steven also mentioned that the City of Moonee Valley resident population is 122,968 with a population density of 28.54

persons per hectare.

Steven also stated that the change in age structure or the service age group indicated that the younger 25-35 age group

increased from 2011 to 2016

Steven also showed the households with children and without children for the various ages.

Most of the statistics were compared with the Moonee Valley area with greater Melbourne.

Have you taken any photos on your iphone, or camera in

this past Rotary Year?

Can I please have them forwarded to:

Many of these photos will form a special memento of this

year in summary.
