Lighting In clip 3 which is the hospital scene, Sarah is lying in the hospital bed having just woken up from the car crash. The lighting in the hospital room comes of as green to emphasize the feeling of being in a hospital because of the hospital bed and the heart monitor. Also the surroundings in the scene that aren't important like near the floor are dark to make the hospital bed and Sarah the center of attention. Also the birthday cake scene is also very dark but its also very inviting because of the birthday cake is lit up. Also the background is dark again to make the cake and the girl stand out. In the scene where she sprints into her friends arms the background is more lit up and looks safe when she is with her friend compared to when she is running through the hospital. Its to show that the darkness is a mental haunting for Sarah and when she is safe in the same corridor.

Location The location of the scene is in a hospital after she has just woken up from the car crash. When she walks out of the hospital room into the corridor the first corridor is very dark which suggests her mental haunting. In the next scene where she is running away from the dark she bumps into Beth in the same corridor but this time the area is more lit up and safe because she isn't alone and she isn't being mentally haunted.

Costume The costume that Sarah is wearing is a hospital dress to again show that she has been in an collision. When she comes out and she is wearing the hospital gown, it shows the audience that she has been physically injured and also mentally harmed because what happens when she starts to get chased by the darkness. The hospital gown also shows and emphasises her vulnerability as well.

Props In the film the main prop that has an effect on the audience is the heartbeat monitor. When she wakes up she has the heart beat monitor attached to her, she then takes it off and it gives off a sudden still drone of noise which shocks the audience and also makes Sarah a little shocked and scared also. The sudden noise makes us remember why she is there and also it reminds us of what happened and how close to death she was. Also in the scene the cake is significant because it’s a constant flashback to what happened in the accident and how again its haunting her and the constant thinking of the loss of her daughter.

Sound

In the scene when she wakes up the beeping of the heartbeat monitor is the first thing she hears and it sets the scene that she is in hospital. A lot of the sound in the scene is diegetic because non diegetic sound is things like voice over and music. the non diegetic is the music being played in the background. A lot of the sound like the sound of the darkness closing in on Sarah and the sound that the props make. Also the communication and dialogue in the scene towards the end of it is diegetic also.
