Description

• Hugging Quilt is an M-shaped quilt designed to cover shoulders as good as the rest of a body

• Cuddly Pillow is a Bean-shaped pillow designed to support a neck and provide a maximum comfort for a head to rest.

InspirationThe original idea of creation the hugging quilt came to me when I watched my little

boy sleeping. His body and feet were warm but his shoulders weren't. I had to program myself to wake up every hour to cover him up and also make sure his head and face were free. The flexibility of his cover was good but it still involved a lot of jamming

underneath his chin consequently causing him pushing the quilt down. I decided to alter the shape of his quilt in a way that it

provided the needed warmness all over his body and did not obstruct his neck and head

movement.

Development

• Firstly I designed attachments to the existing standard quilt which appeared unpractical and created cold spots in the joining line area.

• Then I started to cut out all sorts of U shapes at the top of the quilt but did not meet the satisfaction for the ultimate snugly comfort of cuddliness.

• Finally I achieved a goal – the M-shaped design that allowed ample room for my little boys’ head and neck to move freely while his shoulders were entirely covered.

• I reshaped the corners in smooth arches to finish the design in soft and cuddly concept.

Pros for Hugging Quilt

• Attractive product (pleasant design no aggressive shapes, easy to become popular especially amongst children)

• Practical product (can be used widely in household, hotels, hospitals etc. and very helpful for disabled people especially children)

• Unique product (to my knowledge nowhere in world a similar product found)

• Applicable to various sizes (child, single, double)

• Easy to advertise (due to its potential likeability, wantable name etc; got some ideas myself)

• Versatile product (arm of the M can be used as pillow or buttoned up and quilt converted into a standard shape)

• Safe product (H&S issues are minimum in fact enhances safety by offering a cuddly arm instead of e.g. sleeping with a terry cloth)

Cons for Hugging Quilt

• Audacious product (may be looked at with an old fashion eye as too daring)

• Higher cost of production (approximately by 7% more consumptive in fabrics)

• A special quilt cover required (a new design quilt cover will be needed)
