The Región de la Minería Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit institution founded on August 3rd 2000, by the Archbishop of Antofagasta and the Antofagasta Industrial Association, the owners of the establishment.

The Salesian Congregation is in charge of the administration of the school, providing young people with technical and values-based education.

Laying of first stone: March 19th 2001.
Start of construction: July 2001.
Start of classes: March 6th 2002, with 360 students in eight first-year groups.
Official opening: May 3rd 2002.
Specializations: Industrial mechanics, automotive mechanics, electricity and electronics.

This model is based on the complete involvement of the business community in an
educational project, and in this sense the model is vastly superior to the tratditional
model of “Business Advisory Councils”.

General Objective:
The agreement seeks to regulate the framework for collaboration between the companies and the establishments ”Don Bosco Technical Industrial Schools Antofagasta and Calama”, bringing the reality of companies to classroom and creating early links between students and mining companies and suppliers in our Region.

Opened in 2016: 7th and 8th year of primary and 1st year of secondary

70% of students from vulnerable backgrounds

When building work is complete, the school will take a total of
1,860 students, from Pre-Kinder through to the 4th (final) year of
secondary education
