Controlling fgure ordering when exported to ePub

From page 2 o this presentation, i you are using option 1 (Single text ow with linked rames) or your ContentFlow Organization, then you need to place your fgures using 1 o the ollowing 2 options:

    Inline Anchored

I you use the XML Structure Pane or Articles Panel to dictate the order o your fgures, then you do not need toapply the Inline or Anchored options listed above.

    Interactive Navigation

    Hyperlinks and Cross-Reerences

I your hyperlinks and cross-reerences are properly set up using InDesigns built-in unctionality, then they willtranslate seemlessly to clickable hyperlinks when exported to ePub.*

    Footnotes

Properly set up ootnotes will also translate seemlessly to clickable hyperlinks when exported to ePub.Te ootnote reerence link will take you to the ootnote. Ten, clicking the number at the beginning o theootnote will take you back to the reerence.

    * Tere is currently a bug in CS5 that breaks some o these hyperlinks, but it is fxed in CS5.5

    Using the InDesign Book fle

I your project includes more than 1 InDesign fle, then the Book fle is necessary to properly export or ePub.

Most o us are amiliar with the benefts o using a Book fle or print production, such as pagination and style-

    syncing.

But it is just as important or ePub export o multiple InDesign fles (i not more so).

Here are some ePub-specifc things that a Book fle does or you:

Dictates the order o your ePub html fles

    One-step export to ePub

Book Style Source used to indicate location o ePub OCand File Ino (metadata)

Also used to sync and update style and cross-reerenceinormation across included documents

    Including Metadata

In order to have InDesign include some basic metadata with your exported ePub fle, you need to add it to theDescription tab within the File Ino dialog (File/File Ino...).

You only need to add this inormation to 1 o your InDesign fles (i there are more than 1), but make sure that itis the fle designated by the Book panel as the style source.

I using CS5.5, the date ino is added automatically, based on the day the ePub fle is created.

    Setting up the ePub TOC

Te able o Contents Styles dialog that is used to create an auto-generated OC or print is also the same dialogthat is used to create the built-in ePub OC (toc.ncx), that is accessible by most, i not all, ePub readers.

I you already have a OC set up that includes the same styles that you would want in your ePub, then there is noneed to create another style. Just select that one when exporting to ePub.

But i you dont already have one, it is very easy to set up.

You only need to worry about 2 felds in the dialog when setting it up or ePub:

OC Style (Give it a name)

Include Paragraph Styles (these are the styles that will create your entries)

Once the OC Style is established, just save it and that is it. (But make sure that it lives in the fle that isestablished as the style source in your Book panel.)

When you are ready to export your fles to ePub, select it rom the drop-down list in the Export Options dialog.
