1.0 ABSTRACT

JIM POLYTECHNIC IT Unit has a proven ability to Use and Manage the OMR Marking Machine

from different manufacturers and able to use the software for the student's database manage both for

online and offline Record keeping. Customers - from different Primary, Secondary, Colleges of

Educations, Polytechnics and Universities has rely on our digital platform methodology to create,

deliver, promote and protect their student Examinations and internal examinations conducted by the

Schools and achieve their desired goals.

2.0 BACKGROUND, OBJECTIVE, AND TECHNICAL APPROACH

2.1 Background

OMR devices work with a dedicated scanner device that shines a beam of light onto the form paper.

The contrasting reflectivity at predetermined positions on a page is then used to detect the marked

areas because they reflect less light than the blank areas of the paper.

OMR devices use forms which are preprinted onto 'transoptic' paper and measure the amount of light

which passes through the paper, thus a mark on either side of the paper will reduce the amount of light

passing through the paper.

In contrast to the dedicated OMR device, desktop OMR software allows a user to create their own

forms in a word processor and print them on a laser printer. The OMR software then works with a

common desktop image scanner with a document feeder to process the forms once filled out.

2.2 Objective

OMR OCR software is a smart application based on Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology

to recognize optical marks (checkmarks). The application offers a user with a swift, accurate and

flexible solution for processing of OMR based sheets as compared to hardware based tools like image

scanners. Typical applications of OMR technology include the processing of questionnaires, ballots,

educational tests and reporting, and ordering sheets, where the documents to be processed are form-

like and filled in by hand by respondents.

OMR OCR Software uses scanned copy of OMR sheet using any standard scanner and provides 100%

accurate result and export data into Text and Excel formats. It is not scanner or design specific. Rather,

it supports any design of OMR sheet and any model of flatbed or ADF scanner.

TECHNICAL APPROACH

OMR Software is based on OCR Engine Platform. The underlying OCR engine is modified to suit the

requirements of OMR sheets pattern for capturing the user input as marked in the sheets.
