Focus on:•Knowledge – Topics that you know•Passion – Ideas or concepts that you are about
Ask yourself:•Will my audience care about this topic?
• Time Limit:• Set a time limit with a stop watch• Ex: 10 minutes
• Use Your Life For Inspiration:• Use your personal experiences and
stories• Write down ideas without censoring
content on the first round
• Mediation:• Take a 5 to 10 mins to sit quietly
and see what ideas float through your mind• ‘Free write’ whatever comes to mind
• Review Your Topic Ideas• Narrow down to one idea or topic
• Organize Your Speech• Speech Body• Pick three main messages• Come up with an example, statistic, etc. to support each
main message• Catchy Introduction• Engage the audience – ask a question, tell a story
• Memorable Conclusion• Summarize your main messages• End with a call to action
• Consolidate: • Put all the content that you need to remember in one
place • i.e. type into a document, write on a sheet of paper
• Highlighting:• Highlight keywords, phrases, examples
• Visualize:• As you practice speaking, visualize yourself on stage• Bring up a mental ‘image’ of your keywords and
highlighting
• Rehearse:• Practice makes perfect
• Record and Review:• Record yourself practicing your
speech• Review the recording• Did you remember your
speech content?• Did your body language / non-
verbal cues support your main points?
• Self-Care:• Get a good night’s sleep• Eat well• Stay hydrated
• Own The Room:• Arrive early to see how the room
is setup• Take a few seconds at the
beginning of a speech to get the audience’s attention
