A Lambda c-type print is a digital print produced using Durst’s Lambda machine – a photographic printing machine that uses three lasers (RGB – red, green and blue) merged into one beam to produce digital c-type prints on light-sensitive silver halide materials. Exposed paper is then traditionally ‘wet’ processed using photographic chemistry, in much the same manner

as traditional photographic prints produced using negatives with an enlarger in a darkroom.

Using this process, we are able to print your images full colour or black and white in sizes up to 1219 mm (48 inches) in width and up to the length of an entire roll – which is a massive 1,968 inches.

To increase the archival stability of your images, our c-type processor includes three wash tanks rather than the standard two.

The term 'Giclée' is derived from the French word, 'gicler', which literally translates as 'to squirt' or 'spray' (inspired by the way that the printer nozzle applies the ink pigments to the paper). The term ‘Giclée’ was coined to describe inkjet printing in the early nineties and has remained a description for inkjet printing ever since.

The term 'Giclée Prints' or 'pigment prints’ (as they are also known) denote a print made from a digital file directly to paper using an inkjet printer as an output device. Whilst the term is broad, it has come to be associated with prints produced to fine art papers.

Our Giclée printing is archival grade, exceptional quality and offers an intense colour and vibrancy. We are able to offer Giclée Fine Art prints on archival papers in sizes up to 60 inches wide, and just about any length you desire.

The Epson Ultrachrome inks used for our our Giclée Fine Art prints are highly pigmented, light-fast to an exceptional standard and specially designed to be used with our high-grade archival papers.

We stock a wide selection of archival Hahnemühle and Somerset papers for Giclée Fine Art printing - each paper provides a different tactility, texture and effect to the final print. We can also print on a variety of other papers by request.

What is ChromaLuxe Fine Art Printing?


ChromaLuxe printing uses a process called ‘dye sublimation’ to fuse images on to metal. The term ‘sublimation’ describes the transition of a substance (in this case, the special inks) directly from the solid to the gas phase without becoming a liquid first.

The 8 dye sublimation inks we use for the production of your work consist of a solid and heat intensive dye. Your image or artwork is first printed as a Giclee print using these inks, on to transfer paper, which is then applied to a specially coated 1.2mm aluminium panel. Using both heat and pressure the dye particles change into a gas, bond with the polymers in the aluminium, and then change back into a solid state; fusing the image and aluminium together.

The ChromaLuxe printing process produces images on aluminium with an outstanding depth and intensity of colour - comparable to traditional Cibachrome prints or photographs produced using Kodak Kodachrome or Fujifilm Velvia colour-reversal or transparency films - that really has to be seen to be believed.

ChromaLuxe prints are archival, highly resilient and require no additional glass, acrylic, lamination or coating to protect them. The dye sublimation process renders images waterproof, abrasion resistant, fire resistant and chemical resistant – making artwork suitable for almost any interior or exterior environment. Using this unique process, images and artwork is even suitable for display underwater. For high-traffic areas, or climatically challenging environments, this new service offers an unparalleled endurance and remarkable stability.

Our ChromaLuxe Fine Art Prints are available in in sizes up to 70” x 40” and can be precision cut to almost any shape that you desire.

We offer ChromaLuxe printing to either white or clear polymer based aluminium panels. Our white coated aluminium panels offer true-colour reproductions of your images or artwork, without any colour distortion. For those looking to achieve a metallic finish, our clear polymer-based aluminium panels use a transparent coating that allows the reflective qualities of the aluminium panel to shine through the lighter areas of your image. For optimum flexibility, both options are available in either a high gloss or matte finish.

Backlit transparencies (also known as Duratrans or Fujitrans) are photographs or images printed on a translucent-base material, ideal for displaying on lightboxes.

We print both Duratrans (which have a translucent base) and Duraclears (which have a transparent base and are commonly used in lightboxes with diffusers) using our Lambda c-type process – which is archival, and similar to a traditional photographic process but with all of the benefits of digital control.

Lambda technology uses three lasers (RGB – red, green and blue) merged into one beam, your Images are exposed to photosensitive transparent film before being traditionally ‘wet’ processed in much the same manner as traditional photographic printing. To increase the archival stability of your Duratrans, our Lambda printer includes three wash tanks rather than the standard two.

Using this process, we are able to achieve true continuous tone, ultra sharp photographic images with crisp edge to edge printing and absolute

ly no distortion. Duratrans can be produced from digital files, negatives and transparencies in full colour or black and white, up to 1219 mm (48 inches) in width.

Direct to Media UV Printing is a large format, full colour plus white, ultra-fine inkjet printing process which allows artwork to be printed directly on to virtually any flat surface up to up to 3m x 2m and up to 60mm in depth.

Our printer uses a six-colour ink system to produce your images with an intense, wide colour range. In addition, you can also print in white – allowing you to print on dark coloured media and to create special effects on transparent materials such as glass or Perspex.

The ultra-fine droplets of ink are deposited directly on to the printing media which is then almost instantly cured, or dried by UV (ultraviolet) light. The specially developed ink droplets are bonded to the surface of your chosen media – giving you a smooth, stable, abrasion resistant and long-lasting image.

Perspex (Acrylic) Face Mounting, also known as Reverse Face Mounting is the process of mounting a photographic print between a sheet of Perspex and an Aluminium or Dibond backing sheet.

Prints are first bonded using optically clear silicone adhesive, creating an airtight bond with no air bubbles.

Our face mounts are then cut using our precision cutter, our unique service means that we can produce face mounts in virtually any shape that you desire.

Glass face mounting offers an unparalleled crisp, clear and contemporary finish and is a popular high-quality alternative to our Perspex face mounting. Because the print is sandwiched between the glass and the back using a permanently elastic 100% clear silicone glue, glass face mounting provides the additional benefit of no light reflections between the photographs and the glazing of an ordinary frame.

LED lighting also emits far less heat than traditional lightboxes which used fluorescent tubing, which not only required additional depth to prevent overheating, but has also been linked to the deteri-oration of images.

LED panels are used to illuminate our lightboxes, which not only gives us greater flexibility in the sizes that we can produce, but also means that our lightboxes are evenly lit from edge to edge.

We stock a wide range of exhibition-quality mouldings in a broad range of colours and finishes and our specialist staff are able to consult with you to find your perfect finishing solution. We use anti-reflective Artglass as standard, which is the best option for reflection-free and neutral viewing. This incorporates a 70% UV filter to protect your valuable artwork from fading. In addition to traditional glazing, we also offer durable and lightweight Perspex – perfect for larger frames.

When in comes to passé-partout’s, or window mounts, we only use the finest 8-ply acid-free and neutral pH museum conservation-quality board, which is certified by The Fine Art Trade Guild and offers exceptional preservation qualities that conform to the highest conservation standards.

The wooden mouldings we use for our framing are from sustainable sources that are managed to meet environmental, social and economic needs for both the present and future, as certified by the FSC scheme.

Tray framing offers a glassless, contemporary framing solution that achieves a 3d, ‘floating’ effect for your images or artwork. Without glass, tray frames are more lightweight than traditional framing options and reflections on artwork are minimised – allowing your work to be seen in all of its glory. Your images are firstly mounted to Dibond - a lightweight aluminium composite known for its rigidity – which adds protection to the print and provides a firm base for framing.

A smaller sub-frame is then attached to the reverse of the mounted print, providing space between the back of the frame and the print. The artwork is set back slightly from the edge of the frame to prevent damage and there is space left on all sides of the mounted print within the frame to achieve the ‘floating’ effect.

offers a contemporary framing solution with added depth using a ‘fillet’, or ‘spacer’ which runs alongside the inner edge of the frame, providing a separation between your artwork and the glass of the frame.

Alongside the contemporary aesthetic achieved with spacer framing, the separation between your artwork and the glass of the frame also aids in preventing damage to your prints caused by condensation (which can result in mould, mildew or the deterioration of the surface of the image).

Spacer framing is also ideal for 3d artworks as the depth of the spacer can be adjusted to accommodate your work.

Without glass, keyline frames are more lightweight than traditional framing and reflections on artwork are minimised – allowing your work to be seen in all of its glory.

Your images are firstly mounted to Kapa Foamboard, ensuring that they lay flat within the frame and providing extra strength and rigidity. The edges are then painted to match your chosen moulding colour and tone and the mounted print is attached directly to the frame.

window mounts which are available in a choice of colour and material

Aside from enhancing visual appeal, window mounts offer protection for

photographs and artwork by providing separation between the artwork

and the glass (prevent damage from any condensation – resulting in water

damage, mould, mildew or the deterioration of the surface of the image)

We only use acid-free, neutral pH museum-conservation quality board for

our window mounts, which is certified by the Fine Art Trade Guild and

offers exceptional preservation qualities that conform to the highest

conservation standards.

Our passe-partout mounts are available in a wide range of colours and we

can produce window mounts in any size up to 60 x 40 inches with a

window size of 48 x 36 inches. The cutout shape of the passe-partout is

bevelled to prevent casting shadows on the picture and we can create

single or multiple apertures depending on your requirements.

We provide a full vinyl printing, cutting and installation service for

galleries and commercial premises for both indoor and outdoor use.

We stock an extensive range of vinyl film in a wide range of colours and

finishes and we can also fulfil bespoke colour requests through our vinyl

printing service. Alongside traditional vinyls, we also work with optically

clear films, which offer a great alternative for window applications in

galleries and offices, and are a popular choice for creative glazing

manifestations.

Using specially designed eco-solvent inks, we can also print vinyl to

your specifications – either using your pre-existing artwork or graphics

designed by our in-house team. All of our self-adhesive vinyl’s are held

in place on a low-tack backing sheet for ease of application.

Our bespoke wallpaper printing service serves the demands of

photographers, artists, interior designers, companies and individuals

looking to produce images or artwork to cover extra-large areas,

corners or columns.

Because our wallpaper is produced using the same Giclée printing

process, our wallpapers are archival, durable and suitable for gallery

exhibitions and interior displays.

We print images and artwork to Landor’s Phototex, which unlike

traditional wallpapers is paste-free, fully re-positionable and peels off

residue-free due to its unique low-tack adhesive.

With solvent curing, Phototex is also suitable for outdoor use.

We also have our very own fleet of motorcycle couriers offering delivery for smaller items within London. In addition, we can deliver large and delicate works in one of our dedicated delivery vans. The term ‘sealing’ refers to the application of matt or gloss PVC lamination film to the surface of prints. Sealing prints helps to minimise the damage to your print from UV rays, handling, damage from scuffs and general mild wear and tear.

We offer matt and gloss sealing for the protection and preservation of your images and artwork and we recommend sealing to protect prints that are to be presented or exhibited without the protection of glass or Perspex.

Whether you choose a matte or gloss seal is down to your individual preference or requirements. Gloss offers prints a shiny, durable surface but images can still be still prone to slight scratching. We would recommend matt to cover larger surfaces with optimum protection.

Our preferred choice of colour profile for the best possible photographic printing with our very carefully controlled ICC workflow is Adobe RGB (1998), although we do accept files in other colour profiles- if in doubt, please do not hesitate to give us a call on +44 (0) 207 384 6200. To soft proof your images prior to printing you can download our Lambda profile from our website. This, on calibrated monitors, will show you an accurate reproduction of how your images should print.

As a general guide for colour prints on either our Giclée or Lambda printers, your images should be in RGB, any layers flattened and preferably saved as a Tiff file (.tif) with LZW compression. This will maximize the quality of your image and also keep the file size down. Other file formats are acceptable such as a layered Tiff or Photoshop document (.psd) but these will have an inherently larger file size. JPEG’s (.jpg) are fine for smaller prints but because of their image lossy nature it is not recommended that you save any files in this format. Images shot as in-camera JPEG’s are once again mostly suited to small to medium prints. And naturally we are happy to accept RAW camera files. Once again, please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions about file formats for photographic prints.

Terms and Conditions of Business


Terms and Conditions of our Guarantee:

Introduction

1.1. These terms and conditions (‘The Terms’) govern every contract made between Genesis Imaging Limited (“Genesis”) and any client for the supply of goods and services made by Genesis.

1.2. The terms prevail over any written terms and conditions of the client.

1.3. Any variation to The Terms must be agreed in writing by a Director of Genesis.

Price and Payment

2.1. All prices as set out in Genesis’s price list are exclusive of VAT.

2.2. The client will settle the account in full within 30 days of the date of the invoice.

Collections and Deliveries

3.1. Genesis’s collection and delivery courier service is available to clients between 9.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

3.2. The client must sign for goods delivered by the courier or Genesis will not be responsible for any losses arising from the delivery.

Uncollected Goods Film and Digital Data Storage

4.1. Genesis may dispose of any materials, unprocessed film or any other items that have not been collected by the client after more than three months from the date of receipt of the work by Genesis.

4.2. Whilst every reasonable care will be taken to safeguard negatives, transparencies, prints, artworks or other items stored by Genesis on the client’s instruction and behalf, this facility is offered on the understanding that Genesis is not responsible for the loss (including theft), destruction of or damage to any of the items belonging to the client or any other party for whatever reason.

4.3. Genesis will store digital data arising from scanning, printing and image retouching or other works for a maximum period of up to 6 months. This facility is offered on the basis that Genesis are not responsible for the future integrity of that data, or any failure to retrieve data from Genesis’s storage archive.

Limit of Liability

5.1. The client must notify Genesis in writing of any claim within two weeks of the completion of the order concerning any supply of goods or services provided by Genesis. Genesis will not be liable for any claim notified after such time.

5.2. Whilst every reasonable care will be taken in handling the client’s materials, including original films, prints, artworks, unexposed films or other materials accepted for scanning, printing, mounting, framing and processing, our liability for any loss or damage however caused or damage in production, in transit or delay in transit wherever the destination, or during storage is limited to the basic material replacement cost of the transparencies, negatives or other materials, this value is taken to be no more than £100 per order; and

5.3. Genesis will not be liable for the original cost nor costs of re-shooting the material contained in the original films, prints, artworks, unexposed films or other materials; and

5.4. Genesis will not be liable for any consequential loss or damage incurred by the customer or any other party including loss of profit or income; and

5.5. The client shall be responsible to insure against such costs of re-shooting, replacement, loss or damage.

Insurance

6.1. Genesis advises the client to secure insurance against all eventualities as set out in Clause 5 above.

Force Majeure

7.1. Genesis shall not be liable for any failure to perform any contract due to any circumstances beyond its control including, but not limited to, inability to secure labour, materials, supplies, transport, scarcity of fuel, power or components, machine breakdown, fire, storm, flood, act of God, war, civil disturbance, strikes, lock-outs or industrial action in whatever forms.

Copyright and Legality

8.1. The client undertakes that materials submitted for processing, printing or other services provided by Genesis should not infringe any copyright. The client is responsible if any legal actions are brought about by any third party against Genesis through breach of copyright. In such cases the client agrees to indemnify Genesis against all losses, damages, claims or any expenses which Genesis may reasonably incur by virtue of the above undertaking.
