PREFACE The major part of the present work was carried out in the Department of Oncology ONA at the Finsen Institute, Copenhagen, where I first worked as a House Officer, and afterwards as a Research Fellow from 1986-88 supported by the Danish Cancer Society. The investigation is based on patients with Medullary Carcinoma of the Breast registered in the Danish Breast Cancer Co- operative Group (DBCG), wherefrom the clinical data were kindly delivered. The pathological spe- cimens were kindly retrieved and delivered from pathological departments all over Denmark. My interest in this particular kind of breast cancer was primarily encouraged by my former Chief Consultant Henning T. Mouridsen, Dr.Sci., M.D., to whom I am greatly indebted for his never failing support throughout the investigation and the following years of paper work. I wish especially to thank my colleagues in pathology, Consultant Susanne Holck, DrSci., M.D. and Professor Torben Schiardt, DrSci., M.D., for their reviewing and reclassification of the histopathologicalspecimens, for our inspiring and fruithl discussions, and for their support in general. PREFACE

The major part of the present work was carried out in the Department of Oncology ONA at the Finsen Institute, Copenhagen, where I first worked as a House Officer, and afterwards as a Research Fellow from 1986-88 supported by the Danish Cancer Society.

I wish especially to thank my colleagues in pathology, Consultant Susanne Holck, DrSci., M.D. and Professor Torben Schiardt, DrSci., M.D., for their reviewing and reclassification of the histopathological specimens, for our inspiring and fruithl discussions, and for their support in general.

I am gratehl to Karin Zedeler from the DBCG for her expert help concerning the statistics and for good fellowship. I hrther should like to ex- press my thanks to the DBCG Secretariat for their always kind and willing cooperation.

I thank Jnrrgen Larsen, MSc, and Ib J. Christen- sen, MSc, of the Finsen Laboratory for their great work concerning the DNA profile.

In addition, I want to thank those of my collea- gues, whose discussions and support have been va- luable to me at different times during my work, especially Dr Carsten Rose and Dr Claw Kamby, my “room-mate” from the office of Research Fel- lows at the Finsen Institute. Last, but not least, I want to thank my scientific secretary during sev- eral years, Disa la Cour, for her skilled and always competent work, and for her friendship. I also thank Pia Hirsch, secretary to H.T. Mouridsen, for her kind and ready help whenever needed.
