2019-2020 PUENTE Charter School Enrollment Pre-lottery Enrollment Priorities Thank you for selecting PUENTE Charter School for your child’s educational journey! The 2019-2020 registration period begins in November and we want to make the enrollment process as easy as we can for you. Your child has enrollment priority because s/he is attending PUENTE Charter School, allowing your child to continue with us in an uninterrupted manner. Additionally, LAUSD allows for siblings of your child the same priority enrollment status to ensure that families are kept together at the same school.

However, as a public charter school, we are also required to conduct a lottery to invite additional students if our current families do not register now. Please submit your application as soon as you receive it to avoid the lottery process.

FIRST STEP the application will be sent home with your child in November.

STEP TWO prepare to have all phone numbers and updated immunization records ready.

STEP THREE complete and submit the Charter School Application for the 2019-2020 to Graciela Ramos in the Charter School Office.

Autumn fun activities

continue this week! Your child will participate in a pumpkin carving demonstration, read special fall stories and make several arts and crafts projects in class. On Wednesday, your child may come dressed in his or her Halloween costume. We will sing various autumn and Halloween songs.

The children will walk through the fun and safe “Haunted Hall” in the Children’s Wing for tricks and treats! We want to be considerate of families that do not participate in Halloween activities. Please see your child’s teachers to ensure s/he participates in the non-holiday themed alternate activity.

Sus niños participarán en una demostración de decoración de la calabaza, leeremos historias especiales del otoño y también proyectos de arte para otoño. It is also a very important lesson for kindergarten students to learn their full home address. Introducing children to map skills helps them look for small details as well as follow directions. At home, families can continue the learning experience by creating treasure hunts for the children and learning about the community.

This week the children will learn about map skills. Map skills are an important concept even for very young children. Children can begin developing map and geography skills through simple, engaging activities such as drawing and reading maps.

One important way that families can lend this support is by taking an interest in the homework that children bring home and by finding the most effective ways to help them with their homework. Before discussing ways that you can help your child with homework, it is important to discuss why teachers assign homework and how it benefits your child.

Why do teachers assign homework? Teachers assign homework for many reasons. Homework can help children review and practice what they've covered in class, get ready for the next day's class, and explore subjects more fully than classroom time permits. Homework also can help students to develop good study habits and positive attitudes. It can teach children to work independently and encourage self-discipline and responsibility.

Homework can help create greater understanding between families and teachers and provide opportunities for increased communication. Monitoring homework keeps families informed about what their children are learning. Children in kindergarten can benefit from 20 minutes of homework each school day.
