Prescribing Skills – Training and Assessment Revisited
How can we better train and assess healthcare professionals to prescribe and supervise the use of medicines
( 9.00 am – 4.30 pm )
Effectiveness of health care delivery depends on the team of health professionals, who
uses effective, safe and affordable medicines and carefully monitors the response. The
team members should be competent in rational prescribing. Last year’s preconference
workshop on Prescribing Skills- Training and Assessment revealed that the training of
undergraduate students in prescribing skills needs to be strengthened through a specific,
relevant training programme.
Hence South Asian College of American College of Clinical Pharmacology has decided
to revisit the topic through a one day preconference workshop (PCW-2) on “Prescribing
Skills- Training and Assessment Revisited” on Monday, 30th April 2018. This
workshop will familiarize the health care professionals with key aspects involved in
developing a prescribing skills training and assessment (PSTA) module that can be
implemented at undergraduate level of any health professional course.
Learning objectives
At the end of the workshop, the participants shall be able to:
Familiarize with prescription research methodology to identify gaps in rational
prescribing
Recognize the key components in developing a prescribing skills training
module so that it can be tailor made to the needs of target population
Gather hands-on experience of validating developed case scenarios and
questions to assess various prescribing skills of the learners undertaking the
programme.
Recommend the strategy to develop and implement PSTA module in
undergraduate teaching of various healthcare professions (e.g. medicine,
pharmacy, nursing) as well as medical officers of public health system.
Who should attend?
Faculty from disciplines of pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, physicians and
surgeons from teaching institutions, faculty of clinical pharmacy (Pharmacology
division), postgraduate students of pharmacology, clinical pharmacology,
medicine/surgery and allied disciplines, M.Pharm (Pharmacology), public health
system officers.
