The maxims of the Cooperative Principle:
- All of them at a time: an ideal situation.
- If we did not follow Quality Maxim - the communication among people would make no
sense
- Violation of some maxims is sometimes necessary:
• politeness
A: I’m gonna miss you. B: Oh, thank you, that’s nice. (+ no mention of missing A)
• irony
A: Who hasn’t submitted their essay? B: Mickey Mouse.
