POWERFUL PRAYER

P rayer is a powerful resource for fol-lowers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ’s

atonement for our sins empowers us with Hisrighteousness in order to face the spiritual bat-tles in this evil world.

The following spiritual warfare prayers arereally what I term “doctrinal prayers.” Theydraw power from the absolutes of truth avail-able to believers through the finished work ofour Lord Jesus Christ. Such prayer enables us toapply the victories won by Jesus Christ directlyagainst the efforts of Satan and his host.

Though Satan seeks to defeat us in living avibrant Christian life, our weapons are mighty:They have “divine power to demolish strong-holds” (2 Corinthians 10:4).

The pattern prayers that appear throughoutthis booklet have proven helpful in defeatingsatanic influences in believers’ lives. I com-mend these prayers to you as a model. Theyrepresent a vital way to use doctrinal truth asyou pray on behalf of your friends, your chil-dren, your church, your country, and yourself.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL VICTORY

D ear heavenly Father, I praise You thatI am united with the Lord Jesus Christ

in all of His life and work. By faith I desire toenter into the victory of the incarnation of myLord today. I invite Him to live His victory inme. Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, that Youexperienced all temptations that I experienceand yet never sinned.

I enter by faith into the mighty work of thecrucifixion of my Lord. Thank You, dear Father,that through Jesus’ blood there is moment-by-moment cleansing from sin, permitting me tofellowship with You. Thank You that the workof the Cross brings Satan’s work to nothing.

I enter by faith into the full power andauthority of my Lord’s resurrection. I desire towalk in the newness of life that is minethrough my Lord’s resurrection. Lead me into adeeper understanding of the power of the Res-urrection.

By faith I enter into my union with the LordJesus Christ in His ascension. I rejoice that myLord displayed openly His victory over all pow-ers as He ascended into glory through the veryrealm of the prince of the power of the air.

I enter into my victory aggressively andclaim my place as more than a conquerorthrough Him who loves me. I offer up thisprayer in the name of the Lord Jesus withthanksgiving. Amen.


PRAYER FOR SALVATION OF FRIEND

L oving heavenly Father, in the name ofour Lord Jesus Christ I bring before

You __________ . I thank You, heavenly Father,that You have sovereign control over (firstname). I thank You for the qualities of________________ and ________________ thatI see that You have placed in this man/woman.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and asa priest of God, I plead the sufficiency of theblood of Christ to meet the full penalty his sinsdeserve. I claim back the ground of his life thathe has given to Satan by believing the enemy’sdeception. In the name of the Lord Jesus ChristI resist all of Satan’s activity to hold __________in blindness and darkness.

Exercising my authority through my unionwith the Lord Jesus Christ, I pull down thestrongholds which the kingdom of darknesshas formed against ___________. I smash allthose plans formed against __________ ’s mind,will, emotions, and his/her body. PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

D ear God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist, I worship You in the wonder

of Your triune oneness. Thank You, blessedHoly Spirit, for Your great work of baptizing meinto this body of Christ, the church. Thank You,Lord Jesus Christ, for continuing Your mightywork of readying Your church, to present her toYourself as a radiant bride, without stain of anykind.

My Father, I rejoice that Your salvation hasunited me inseparably not only with Yourselfbut also with every other believer. Yet I longand pray for the bringing together of Your born-again ones. We have been terribly wounded bythose things that have divided us.

Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, for planningfor unity rather than uniformity. The diversityof Your body is part of its beauty and appeal tothe lost. It adds to Your glory. Help us to loveone another in our diversity.

Blessed heavenly Father, I recognize thatSatan and his kingdom are relentless in theirefforts to keep believers divisive toward oneanother. As the accuser of the believers, he con-tinually plants suspicions in believers’ hearts. Inthe name of my Lord Jesus Christ, I pull downthat work of darkness and bind our enemy thathe might not succeed. I ask the Holy Spirit tosupplant all divisive works active in believers.

In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.


PRAYER FOR MARRIAGE

L oving heavenly Father, I thank You forYour perfect plan for our marriage. I

know that a marriage functioning in Your willis fulfilling and beautiful. I bring our marriagebefore You that You might make it all Youdesire it to be.

Please forgive me for my sins of failure inour marriage. [One may specify and enlargeconfession.] In the name of the Lord JesusChrist, I tear down all of Satan’s strongholdsdesigned to destroy our marriage. In His name,I break all negative relationships between usthat have been established by Satan and hiswicked spirits. I will accept only the relation-ships established by You and the blessed HolySpirit. I invite the Holy Spirit to enable me torelate to __________ [your spouse’s name] in amanner that will meet his/her needs.

I submit our conversations to You, thatthey may please You. I submit our physicalrelationship to You, that it may enjoy Yourblessing. I submit our love to You, that Youmay cause it to grow and mature.

Open my eyes to see all areas where I amdeceived. Open __________ ’s eyes to see anyof Satan’s deceptions upon him/her. Make ourunion to be the Christ-centered relationshipYou have designed in Your perfect will. I askthis in Jesus’ name with thanksgiving. Amen.


PRAYER TO KNOW AND SPEAK TRUTH

I n the name of the Lord Jesus Christ Iclaim the protection of the belt of truth,

described in Ephesians 6:14. I pray its protec-tion over my personal life, my home and fami-ly, and the ministry God has appointed for mylife. I use the belt of truth directly against Satanand his kingdom of darkness. I embrace Himwho is the truth, the Lord Jesus Christ, as mystrength and protection from all of Satan’sdeceptions.

I desire that the truth of God’s Word shallconstantly gain a deeper place in my life. Ipray that the truth of the Word of God may bemy heart’s delight to study and memorize.

Forgive me for my sins of not speaking thetruth. Show me any way in which I am beingdeceived.

I ask the Holy Spirit to warn me before Ideceive anyone and to protect me always frombelieving Satan’s lies. Thank You, Lord, formaking my local church a pillar and foundationfor Your truth in my life. Help me to relate tomy church and give protection to others aswell as receive it myself.

I see, Lord Jesus Christ, that my ability tobe strong and to do Your will requires the sta-bilizing power of the belt of truth. Thank Youfor providing this part of the armor. Amen.


PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

L oving heavenly Father, I come again toworship You in the wonder of who You

are.I confess my sins to You, dear heavenly

Father. Wash me clean in my Savior’s preciousblood from all that offends You. I recognizewithin my person a fleshly nature that can berebellious in Your sight. I affirm that in myunion with Christ in His death I am dead to therule of the fleshly nature.

I desire the new nature You have placedwithin me to be in charge through the powerof my Savior’s resurrection. Thank You for hav-ing made this new creation in righteousnessand true holiness, so I can love You deeply andserve You fully.

May Your Holy Spirit enable me to mani-fest before You and others the fruit of His fullcontrol.

I confess that, as a believer, I show mypoor, blind, and naked condition. Thank Youthat my Lord Jesus Christ has invited me tocome and buy from Him gold refined in Hisdisciplining fires. I want that gold for myselfand for Your church. Anoint our eyes with theeye salve that enables us to see things as ourLord Jesus Christ sees them.

I base every request on the merit of ourLord Jesus Christ’s finished work. Amen.


PRAYERS FOR REVIVAL

H eavenly Father, I come before You toplead Your mercy over my own sins,

the sins of other believers, and the sins of ournation.

May You judge not this nation with wrathand fury as upon Sodom, but judge it with amighty outpouring of conviction of sin. May sin-ners groan under the burden of their guilt untilthe people cry out as did those at Pentecost,“What shall we do?”

I praise Your holy name that there is suffi-cient measure of grace through the Person andwork of the Lord Jesus Christ to answer thiscry. I wait for the Holy Spirit to prepare andbring us all to revival.

I ask this all with praise in the merit of theLord Jesus Christ. Amen.

L oving heavenly Father, I see about mebrokenness and need. I see great needs

in my own heart, in my family, among my fel-low believers, and in my community and cul-ture. Teach me to care, and to pray about thoseneeds as Your servant Nehemiah learned topray.

Unveil Your presence among us. Drawnear to us that we might experience the bro-kenness and the awareness of our sinful need.I affirm that revival comes as people becomeaware of the near presence of our holy God.

It’s in the name and finished work of ourLord Jesus Christ that I pray. Amen.


PRAYER TO WEAR THE ARMOR OF GOD

H eavenly Father, I put on the armor ofGod with gratitude and praise. You

have provided all I need to stand in victoryagainst Satan and his kingdom.

I confidently take the belt of truth. ThankYou that Satan cannot stand against the bolduse of truth.

Thank You for the breastplate of righteous-ness. I embrace that righteousness which ismine by faith in Jesus Christ. I know that Satanmust retreat before the righteousness of God.

You have provided the solid rock of peace.I claim the peace with God that is minethrough justification. I desire the peace of Godthat touches my emotions and feelings throughprayer and sanctification (Philippians 4:6).

Eagerly, Lord, I lift up the shield of faithagainst all the blazing missiles that Satan firesat me. I know that You are my shield.

I recognize that my mind is a particular tar-get of Satan’s deceiving ways. I cover my mindwith the powerful helmet of salvation.

With joy I lift the sword of the Spirit, whichis the Word of God. I choose to live in its truthand power. Enable me to use Your Word todefend myself from Satan, and also to wieldthe sword well, to push Satan back, to defeathim.

Thank You, dear Lord, for prayer. Help meto keep this armor well oiled with prayer. Allthese petitions I offer You through the mightyname of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.


PRAYER AGAINST TEMPTATION

T he fleshly desires are part of our lives asbelievers, but they need not control us.

Through prayer, we can apply three biblicalsteps to freedom from fleshly desires. First, hon-est admission and confession of temptation(Colossians 3:5–10):

Lord Jesus Christ, my old fleshly nature istempting me to _____________________ (namethe temptation, e.g., lust, anger, gossip), and Iknow that if it’s left to itself, it is wickedenough to cause me to sin against You.

Second, the realization that we have diedwith Christ (Romans 6:11; Galatians 5:24). Weshould “count [ourselves] dead to sin but aliveto God in Christ Jesus.” Acknowledge this truthto Christ in prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, I affirm that through thework of Your cross I am dead with You to therule and control of my flesh and its desiretoward ____________________ (name of fleshlytemptation being experienced at that moment,e.g., anger, lust).

Third, living in the control of the Holy Spir-it (Galatians 5:16–25). This requires that weturn to the Holy Spirit:

Blessed Holy Spirit, I ask You now toreplace this fleshly desire that is tempting metoward ____________________ (state the flesh-ly appeal; e.g., jealousy, lust) with the fruit ofYour control. Put within my mind, will, andemotions Your love, joy, peace, patience, andall the virtues that my Lord Jesus Christ enablesme to live out for His glory. Amen.


PRAYER TO LIVE BY THE SPIRIT

B lessed heavenly Father, in the nameof the Lord Jesus Christ I desire to

walk in the Spirit today. I recognize that onlyas He manifests the life of Jesus Christ in mewill I be able to escape the works of my flesh. Ipray that the Holy Spirit may produce His fruitwithin my whole being and shed abroad in myheart great love for the heavenly Father, for theLord Jesus Christ, and for others about me.

Forgive me, dear Holy Spirit, for the manytimes I have grieved You by my sinning. Grantto me always the awareness of my sins that Imight quickly confess them to God. Grant mealso the desire to obey God’s precious Word.Grant me discernment to avoid being deceivedby false spirits.

I desire that the Holy Spirit fill all my beingwith His presence and control me by faith. Fillme, heavenly Father, with His power that Youmight be glorified through the invinciblestrength You provide me to do Your will. I trustmy victory over the flesh today completely intothe hands of the Holy Spirit as I let Him takecontrol of me.

All of this I ask in the name of the LordJesus Christ for Your glory. Amen.


PRAYER TO REMOVEDEMONIC HARASSMENT

I worship and honor my heavenly Father,the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spir-

it. I ask You, Lord Jesus, to assign Your holyangels to protect me from any strategies ofdarkness designed to oppose this prayer forfreedom.

In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ and bythe power of His blood, I affirm my authorityover all wicked spirits assigned to control meand hinder my life and witness for Christ. Inow command all lingering wicked spirits tocease their work and be bound in the presenceof the Lord Jesus Christ. I also bind all replacerwicked spirits assigned to rebuild evictedstrongholds. They may not do that! I commandall those spirits assigned against me to remainwhole spirits. I forbid any dividing, restructur-ing, or multiplying of wicked spirits workingagainst me.

All powers of darkness having assignmentagainst me must hear and obey Him who istheir Creator and Conqueror. I affirm that Godhas seated me with Christ Jesus in the heavenlyrealms far above all principalities and supernat-ural powers of darkness.

Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You to tell all ofthese powers of darkness assigned to rule overme where they must go. Confine them wherethey can never trouble me again. I yield fully toall of the purposes You have in this battle Ihave been facing. In Your great name I pray.Amen.


PRAYER TO REMOVE DEMONIC INFLUENCE

T hose who have prayed to remove de-monic harassment may also choose to

pray the following:Spirit of the living God, I ask You to evict

from my conscious, subconscious, and uncon-scious mind all control of any wicked powers.Break all of their power and manipulation ofmy thought processes. Sweep them away andmake my mind clear of any wicked spiritdominion. Renew and sanctify my mind, HolySpirit.

I now ask the Holy Spirit to look all throughmy emotions on the conscious, subconscious,and unconscious levels. Evict any controllingpowers of darkness. Gracious Holy Spirit, takecontrol of my emotions. Fill them with the Spir-it’s fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, gentle-ness, meekness, faithfulness, and self-control.

I now ask the Holy Spirit to look all throughmy conscious, unconscious, and subconsciouswill for any control of wicked powers. Evictthem now to where the Lord Jesus Christ iscommanding them to go. Sweep my volitiontotally clean from evil control and manipulation.

I offer my body in all of its parts and func-tions as an expression of my spiritual worshipto my heavenly Father. Holy Spirit, look throughall my body for any controlling activity of wickedspirits. I surrender all my physical appetites toChrist’s lordship and my sexuality for the gloryof God.

In the name and worthiness of my LordJesus Christ I pray. Amen.


PRAYER FOR THE COUNTRY AND WORLD

L oving heavenly Father, I come in hum-ble obedience to use the weapons of

my warfare against the darkness that is seekingto rule the people of my city, country, andworld. I affirm that the weapons You havegiven me have divine power that is sufficient todemolish every stronghold Satan has built tohold back Your plan.

In the Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty name Iuse the weapons of my warfare to weaken anddemolish every dominion, authority, power ofdarkness, and wicked spirit in the heavenlyrealm who has strategized to hinder revival.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and bythe power of His blood, I pull down all levelsof the stronghold of _______________. (Chooseitems from the following list. The list is onlysuggestive, not exhaustive.)

Heavenly Father, assign holy angels toengage in direct combat against these strong-holds of evil. Thank You that, no matter howformidable and threatening the forces of dark-ness become, those who are with us are always“more” than those who are with them. Amen.
