Ø Malaysian palm oil is a key ingredient in the oils and fats industryof Pakistan and is the main raw material in manufacturingvanaspati.

Ø The consumption of vanaspati is gradually going down and newareas for the use of Malaysian palm oil are being sought.

Ø Palm based packed products have been identified as the sectorwhich shows potential for growth and expansion.

Ø MPOC intends to focus on promoting the use of these palm basedfinished products in industries like fast food, confectionery andpackaged food.

§ Pakistan imported some 2.9 million MT palm oils & fats in 2017. Some 81% of this (2.36 million MT)was sourced from Indonesia, while 19% (0.56 million MT) from Malaysia. The imports from othercountries is meager. The imports have grown at an average rate of 5.3% per annum during last 5years.
